Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Arredondo.
Hi Alyssa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey with my Instagram account started when I was working retail back in 2016. I was inspired to create this account to show outfits customers could purchase to earn a commission. I began to include lifestyle content in my feed, which my followers connected to these details. In 2018, I accepted a new job as a therapist and moved to Dallas, Texas, where I then decided to document my journey as I moved to a new city. I re-branded my account to focus on food, travel, and other lifestyle content, and @alyssaadores was born. I moved back to San Antonio, Texas, in July 2021 to begin a counseling doctoral program. Lately, I have been balancing studying, working as a therapist, and creating content!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Time has been my biggest challenge lately. Last year I was accepted into a doctoral program for counseling psychology and spent most of my free time completing the extensive applications and preparing for the interviews. Now that I am in my second semester in my doctoral program, I have experienced the majority of my time being focused on my schoolwork and working as a private practice therapist and owner. It’s a challenge to allocate time for creating content while keeping up with my coursework. Slowly but surely, I have been finding ways to get the best of both worlds, and I don’t have the perfect schedule yet, but it’s a work in progress. I have so much love for creating content on Instagram it is a priority for me to ensure I can continue to do this!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My social media focuses on showcasing new and classic restaurants in San Antonio, Dallas, and other cities I visit. My social media also highlights my experiences of traveling locally and abroad. My goal is for when someone looks at my food or travel-related content on Instagram, they are inspired to try one of my recommendations. I love it when someone sends me a DM saying their parents are in town and would like a recommendation for where to take them to dinner. Or when someone is planning on visiting San Antonio or Dallas, they would like guidance on how to spend their weekends. I’ve had others message me asking for tips when they travel abroad, and I then send them an organized itinerary I created for when I traveled to those specific cities. It is fun to see others post about loving the restaurants and travel attractions I suggested. I am most proud of working alongside local restaurants and sharing what their menus have to offer. There are so many hidden gems in San Antonio that I cannot wait to explore and share on Instagram!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was about 7 or 8, my neighbors asked my family to watch their ducks when they went out of town. I lived in a residential neighborhood where it was not common to have ducks as pets. The ducks spent the weekend with my family and me, which happened to be during Easter weekend. I remember getting into a cute festive dress and taking pictures with the ducks. I spent my weekend playing with the ducks and felt so sad when their owners returned to town. It was such a random experience but one of my favorite memories as a child!
