Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Sarafa.
Matt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was introduced to the world of fashion at age 7. I was sitting on the couch with my mom while she was recovering from surgery and we stumbled across a marathon of Project Runway. We watched the entire season & I was mesmerized by the way these designers took an idea from their head, translated it onto paper & then brought it to life. My grandma taught me how to sew, and fast forward to a few years later when I found myself on the debut season of Project Runway Junior at 16 years old! I started my fashion brand Matt Sarafa very soon after & it’s been an incredible journey ever since!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting my business at 16 years old was incredibly challenging and definitely not a smooth road. Nobody in my family is in the creative field let alone in the fashion industry so I really had to kind of figure it out on my own. I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning but ultimately I learned from all of those and this journey has really crafted me into the designer and entrepreneur that I am today!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a celebrity fashion designer, entrepreneur & social media influencer based in Los Angeles. My company, Matt Sarafa LLC, does everything including streetwear, couture & accessories but we are most well known for our work with luxury faux fur. Our faux fur coats are known worldwide and loved by everyone including A-List celebrities like Tyra Banks, Doja Cat & Big Sean. My biggest accomplishment in my career thus far is probably being the youngest designer to have shows at New York, LA & Paris Fashion Weeks. It was such a dream come true.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My mom actually grew up in Texas so it’s one of my favorite places to visit. The southern hospitality, food & vibes are just unmatched and I can’t think of a single thing I dislike about it!
