Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Pagan.
Hi Eddie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started selling and collecting sneakers, clothing and accessories when I was around 14 years old. Three years later during my senior year of high school, I opened True North sa. I felt there was a need to have an exclusive sneaker boutique shop here in SA. Most shops kinda like mine were only found in other cities. Now almost 4 years in, I feel I have the most successful shop here in SA. I caught the eye of many celebrities who have visited and shopped with us on numerous occasions. I have been networking these last three years in different cities such as NY, LA, Miami and Vegas and built some solid relationships which I feel will help me grow as a brand and continue to grow True North sa.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have definitely been some speed bumps along the way, but they have been learning curves for us. We have experienced two break ins in our San Antonio shop and looted at our Miami shop which unfortunately we had to close. Our struggles have been trying to get the product for our shop we have to travel out of state to stand on long lines whether it’s for purchasing product or raffles it has definitely been a struggle. Covid really made it hard for not just us, but everyone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We all have a role in the shop being that it is now a family business. It has grown so much that my parents have decided to help me out on top of there full time jobs. I do all the purchasing and hunting for the product and work at the shop. My dad does all the buying, networking and promotions. My mom holds it all together she does all the paperwork, accounting, merchandising and works at the shop on her free days. It’s a well-oiled machine and somehow it all works. I think having rare AUTHENTIC older items that are sometimes impossible to get and staying on top of the hype separates us from everyone else. I also feel if you have a passion for what you do it shows and everyone will see that you are not there just to make money.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like the most about the city is there is so much room to grow the opportunities are endless. What I like the least is that I feel the city is so laid back that San Antonio is always slept on. the outer cities are always getting the love.
