Hidden Gems: Meet Margarita Rodriguez of MargiZasa Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarita Rodriguez.

Hi Margarita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for photography began in Mexico when I was 15 years old. Growing up my father used to travel a lot for work, and I remember when the opportunity presented itself my dad used to bring me back a camera from his travels. I used to play with my cameras all the time, I literally and I mean literally used to take pictures of everything! As I got older I began to take photography a bit more seriously, and I decided I wanted to make it a job. So I went out and I got a full-time job as a photographer and happily did it for 4 years. During those 4 years, I always had the desire to run my own photography business, and I knew that I wanted my main focus to be New Born Photography. In 2018 I opened up my first studio in warehouse on the north side of San Antonio where I took my very first New Born session, and where I did a number of different photo sessions as well. In 2019, I relocated my studio to a house I was renting, where I would have customers come in and take their photos. With the years of me having my own studio, I aways knew I wanted a set location and I wanted my studio to be a place where parents could come in and have me capture the moment and memory of their New Born baby. In February of 2020, I finally decided to make my dreams a reality, and I opened up my Photography studio alongside my two business partners, who each run their business one runs a boutique and one does hair and make-up.. The 3 of us together we presented the city of San Antonio a new concept, and that concept was where women can take their maternity pictures and can come in and try on a dress and get their hair and makeup done and get their photos taken by me,

When people walk into our storefront, we strive to make people feel at home, have an experience, and feel confident and I believe that is what makes our business so special.

Now we are in 2022 and I am still happily doing New Born Photoshoots and where I also offer a variety of different photoshoot sessions such as, Birthdays, quinceñeras, maternity, family, Christmas, and seasonal photos.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacles during my time of running my photography studio in a warehouse and a rented home was my language barrier, being far away from home, and juggling 3 jobs in between.

It wasn’t always easy being away from my family who all live in Mexico and trying to run a business while working 3 other jobs just to make ends meet. During the time my English wasn’t as fluent as it is today, and I believe that because of my language barrier I lost a lot potential customers.

Being a women in a different country with 3 jobs and not being able to communicate properly wasn’t easy, but I always held on to my dream and I never gave up.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MargiZasa Photography is a photography studio where I specialize in capturing New Born photos, maternity photos, along other services such as birthdays, quinceñeras, family, and holiday seasonal photos.

What sets me apart from others is the experience my customers get the moment they step foot into my studio. I like to believe that I am a people person and I am very good at communicating and making my customers comfortable. Sometimes getting your photos taken can be a bit uncomfortable if it is something that you are not used to. I take pride in being able to my customers feel comfortable and confident when they step in front of my camera and lens. When it comes to my New Born Photography, I like the parents to feel at home and take a break for 4 hours which is how long the New Born sessions last. I provide them with the experience of being able to sit back and relax and enjoy the process. I like to make people feel good about themselves and I get to do that with my photography.

What I am most proud brand-wise, is our customers feel like they are family.
