Hi Yetzabel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Born in Panama my parents came to the United States in 2004 to better our lives. Always grew up knowing I wanted my own business, never knew exactly what. I had very many interests growing up, sports, music, art, cooking and baking, beauty, etc. About my junior year in high school is when I discovered what eyelash extensions were. I was OBSESSED of the idea of looking like you had strip lashes done but was able to go to sleep and wake up with them already done.
After graduating high school in 2018, I attended school at northwest vista college to get a degree in business management, I worked alongside my parent’s family business in roofing and remodeling. After raising enough money, I was able to take a lash course and go to school to get Licensed. It’s all history from there. I worked countless hours every day lashing, from sometimes as early as 7:30 am sometimes to 10 pm with little to no breaks in between. I knew if I was going to do lashes I wanted to do more than just lash in a small room alone for the rest of my life.
After a little bit over a year of learning as much as I possibly could about lashes, saving every penny I could, studying, planning, etc. I decided to take the jump to get a storefront. With LOTs of help from my parents, I was able to open my first location on Bandera RD. At 19 years old. Now at 21, I’m thankful to say I now have two locations in San Antonio with an amazing team of over 10 girls that I love and am thankful for and make YCA who we are.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Just like the rest of the world, I was majorly impacted by COVID-19. From opening in December of 2019 to having to close 3 months later in March of 2020 for a couple of months.
After spending every penny of my savings I had on this business, I had no source of income and was going negative with all the bills I still had to pay. During that time, I actually picked up baking and sold what I would to get through. After being able to open back up it was very slow as clients still were scared to go out and such.
For a small period of time, I had some ex-employees trying to steal our clients even to the point of trying to shut me down. Always being underestimated by very many people especially for age I learned to not let what others think and say get to me. All I can do is do the best I very can in everything I do.
There will ALWAYS be people in no matter what you do that will want to tear you down. All you can do is keep your chin up, worry about yourself and those who are actually there to help and support you.
