Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Stevens.
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I became the owner of Oak Hills Florist, I had embarrassingly little experience with arranging, dealing with clients, and creating intricate designs. I was thrown into the floral design world and had to sink or swim- and I completed a large corporate order the first week I was in business.
2025 was a profound, life-changing year for me. I navigated my new life as a small business owner, dealing with day-to-day challenges I never have before. I also adopted a dog, Waylon, who has now become a mascot of some sort. At the core of it all, though, is I could never do this without the help of my mom who has been my rock every step of the way.
Almost two years later, I am happy to consider myself a seasoned designer capable of transforming client’s visions with care, unmatched customer serviced, and unique design’s that keep customers coming back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started right before Mother’s Day, which to the average person is already known as a florist’s superbowl, and known to florists everywhere as the end of the world. With limited knowledge of design and business management, I succeeded in creating 150 arrangements solo in the span of a week. I remember spending 24 hours straight at the shop, working into the morning, giggling hysterically with my mom from exhaustion. I will never forget that day.
To my surprise and evidently many others, there is more to floristry than “playing with flowers”. There is a level of physical labor I was not expecting. How to manage time and client relations. How many redbulls I would consume. Not having set hours- sometimes I work 6 hours, other times I work 14. While it is coined that my job is “pink -collar” due to its female-dominated service, I would argue it can often times be more blue-collar leaning.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A flower shop providing high-quality arrangements around San Antonio.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I have been fortunate enough to travel around the country and beyond. One thing I have never been able to find elsewhere is San Antonio’s culture and inviting nature. Not to mention our mexican food is the best you’ll find north of the border.
The only bad thing about SA? Traffic. And construction.
