Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Sheer.
Rebecca, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I opened Sheer Celebrations in November 2015. At that time we opened as a baking supply and party supply shop. After a year or two, we cleared out all the party supplies and made room for a FULL baking supply shop. By early 2020 we had ordered our 1st 3D printer and were getting ready to look to expand to the east coast of the US! When the world shut down in March of 2020, so did we….it was a STRUGGLE. Our 3D printer arrived as well as our 1st batch of our VERY own Sheer Celebrations piping bags; both during the shut down. We survived a pandemic, and we will continue to survive in 2026 and beyond. We not only made it through the pandemic, but we were also experiencing issues with robberies, harassment and more. Dealing with such issues made it so hard to run our business. In the summer of 2023 we started the search for a new location. Finally we found our dream boutique style space in April of 2024 and started to move! We LOVE our new location at 6391 De Zavala Rd., #105. It’s a completely different set up with multiple areas and a more intimate classroom. We are now on our 3rd brand of printer and run multiple printers almost all day and night making cake toppers, cookie cutters, earrings, keychains, name plates and more! We focus more on private classes and family and friend get together style events. The one thing that has not changed is our successful customer service. We are a true small business and we love our customers and what we do here at Sheer Celebrations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a rollercoaster of a ride. Just when we got our groove, BAM!-Covid. Then we started to build up and BAM! Robberies and police at our place every week, just trying to survive. We move and start to get comfy and BAM!-insane economy issues. Retail is definitely struggling along with a lot of the US right now. Every closure I see hurts and we are just looking at every possibly avenue to continue to stay your one stop baking supply shop here in San Antonio, Texas. Small Business ownership is NOT for the faint of heart!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Sheer Celebrations is your one stop shop for your baking needs. Every celebration deserves dessert and we carry all you need to make your sweets and treats the hit of your party! We have everything for cake makers, cupcake makers, cake pop makers and more, but our Cookie Makers are definitely in heaven at Sheer Celebrations. We not only carry several other brands of cookie cutters and products, but we have been producing our own cookie cutters since 2020! We are proud to say we are the FIRST company to produce dual color cutters (just because it’s pretty!) that are not only labeled with what the cutter is but also with the size of the cookie cutter. No guessing what a cutter shape is our which way is up with Sheer Celebrations’ cutters! We also make stampers (embossers and debossers), and cookie and cake stencils. I would say we specialize in CUSTOM products. We are bakers too, so we know what is needed and how to create items that truly work.
I’m most proud of continuing this journey. I know I could quit and try going back to a corporate job with a steady paycheck, but anytime I come to a crossroad and the thought of closing Sheer Celebrations comes up, I’m devastated. I love the business I have created and I love helping others in the world of baking.
Our customer service sets us apart from any other shop. My 20+ years in hospitality management were NOT wasted! We go above and beyond for our customers just like a 5 star hotel.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Isn’t the saying or song, if it weren’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all. Ha-ha, just kidding. I don’t think luck has anything to do with my life or business. Life has twists and turns, and it is how we react and continue that determines our outcome after every life choice. I’m all for some GREAT (luck) twists and turns moving forward, but hard work, planning and determination are what play the major role in my life and business.
