Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Van De Walle.
Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career working at a high-end salon in San Antonio, and pretty quickly realized I wasn’t built to work like a robot—client in, client out, with no real connection. I wanted to know the women sitting in my chair and build genuine relationships with them.
So I took a leap and started my own business as a Makeup Artist and Esthetician. Seventeen years later, I’ve built my business from the ground up, and so many of my clients I now consider dear friends. We talk about anything and EVERYTHING! I’ve watched women get married, have babies, change careers, go through heartbreak, heal, grow and completely reinvent themselves—and they’ve watched me do the same.
Along the way, I realized what I love most is connecting with women. I’ve always been drawn to personal growth and spirituality, and through my own healing journey I became a yoga instructor, continued exploring meditation, breathwork and embodiment, and eventually began hosting women’s retreats.
Now I’m also writing a book about my own healing journey and the lessons that have shaped me. Looking back, I never had a master plan. I simply kept following what lit me up—and at the center of it all has always been women, connection and growth.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest turning points in my life came in my early 30s when I went through a divorce while raising two young children. Financially and emotionally, I had to rebuild so much of my life from the ground up.
That season became an invitation to know myself on a much deeper level. Through therapy and my own healing journey, I began gently exploring the experiences that had shaped me, recognizing patterns I was ready to release, and becoming more intentional about the woman I wanted to be. What began as a challenging chapter ultimately became one of profound growth, self-discovery, and transformation—and it beautifully changed the direction of my life.
Building a business while raising children has had plenty of challenges too. I’ve had to learn to trust myself, take risks, pivot, and keep going even when I didn’t know exactly how things would work out.
Looking back, though, I’m grateful for so many of the hard seasons. They taught me that growth doesn’t always look beautiful while you’re in it. Sometimes the things that feel like they’re breaking your life apart are actually creating space for an entirely new version of you.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Skincare & Makeup by Heather is a very personal, relationship-based skincare business. I specialize in customized facials, HydraFacials, microdermabrasion, red light therapy and makeup, but I truly believe what sets my business apart is the connection I have with my clients.
I’ve never wanted my clients to feel like just another appointment on my schedule. I want them to walk in, exhale, feel cared for, and leave feeling beautiful and refreshed. After 17 years, many of my clients have been with me for years and have truly become friends.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built. My business has grown almost entirely through relationships, referrals and women telling other women about their experience with me. To me, beauty and self-care go much deeper than skin—it’s about how a woman feels when she walks back out into her life.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t know that I believe much in luck. I believe in alignment, intuition, divine timing and being willing to follow the little nudges life gives you.
Some of the things I could have labeled as “bad luck” ended up becoming the greatest catalysts for growth in my life. And many of the opportunities that might look like “good luck” came after years of showing up, building relationships and trusting myself enough to take the next step.
I even met my amazing husband through my work when he brought his daughter in for a facial. What seemed like an ordinary appointment at the time became one of those beautiful, unexpected moments that changed the course of my life. It’s one of the reasons I believe so deeply in alignment, intuition, and divine timing.
I’ve learned to trust that even when I can’t see the bigger picture yet, there’s something guiding me toward where I’m meant to be. My job is simply to stay open enough to notice it.
