Rising Stars: Meet Luz Gonzalez of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luz Gonzalez.

Hi Luz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with fitness started when I was 19, and now at 32, movement and wellness continue to be such an important part of my life. Fitness has always been more than just a workout for me, it’s something that keeps me grounded, challenges me, and helps me feel like the best version of myself.

About three years ago, my relationship with movement completely changed after a back injury kept me from doing what I loved at the time, Olympic lifting. I had to essentially relearn how to move, listen to my body, and rethink what strength and fitness looked like for me. That experience introduced me to lower-impact movement, including yoga and Pilates-inspired workouts, and taught me the value of slowing down and moving with intention. Today, I appreciate all forms of movement and believe there is so much strength in finding balance between intensity and intentionality.

The idea for “Align & Sculpt” grew from both that personal journey and something I felt was missing in Seguin. We simply didn’t have many boutique fitness studio options or spaces centered around movement, wellness, and community. I wanted to create something that felt welcoming and gave people an opportunity to try different styles of movement while connecting with others.

We started small, hosting pop-up classes in local business parking lots, yoga on the lawn, and partnering with other fitness facilities in the community. Those early events showed me that people were looking for more than just a place to work out, they wanted connection and community.

Now, Align & Sculpt has a space of its own, and seeing that vision come to life has been incredibly rewarding. We’re building a community where people support one another, where EVERYBODY is welcome to explore different ways to move, and make time to slow down and move with intention. What started as an idea has grown into a space where movement and community truly come together, and we’re just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I think the challenges have made the journey that much more meaningful. As a woman, a first-generation college graduate, and a first-generation business owner, there have been many moments where I’ve had to learn as I go. There isn’t always someone to call who has walked this path before me or a roadmap that tells me what decision to make when things get difficult.

Building a business from the ground up has required me to step outside of my comfort zone in ways I never expected. I’ve had to learn not only how to create something I believe in, but also how to navigate the uncertainty, responsibility, and vulnerability that come with entrepreneurship. There have been setbacks, difficult decisions, and plenty of moments of self-doubt, but each challenge has taught me something about resilience and trusting myself.

Through it all, I’ve learned that you don’t have to have every answer before you begin. Sometimes you figure it out by taking the next step, making mistakes, asking questions, and continuing to show up.

Every difficult moment has been worth it. When I walk into Align & Sculpt and see people moving together, forming friendships, supporting one another, and finding a place where they feel like they belong, I’m reminded of why I started. Knowing that I’m building something that can positively impact my community makes every challenge along the way worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When I’m not at Align & Sculpt teaching classes, encouraging movement, and building community, you can find me at a nearby hospital working as a registered nurse. I currently work in both the Emergency Room and Interventional Radiology, so caring for others is truly at the center of everything I do. Becoming a nurse was something I dreamed about for a long time. As an immigrant and a first-generation college graduate, earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and putting myself through college is one of my proudest accomplishments. The journey required much sacrifice, perseverance, and faith in myself, but it gave me the opportunity to build a career centered around something I’ve always been passionate about taking care of people. In many ways, nursing and align & Sculpt may seem like two completely different worlds, but to me, they are deeply connected. Both allow me to care for people, just at different points in their lives. At the hospital, I have the privilege of caring for patients during some of their most vulnerable and uncertain moments. At Align & Sculpt, I get to encourage people to prioritize themselves, move their bodies, build strength, and create habits that support their overall well-being. I think that perspective is also part of what makes Align & Sculpt different. For me, wellness isn’t about perfection, appearance, or pushing your body to its limits. It’s about learning to care for yourself, appreciating what your body is capable of, and finding movement that supports the life you want to live. What I’m most proud of is that I’ve been able to pursue both of my passions without feeling like I have to choose between them. I get to be a nurse, a business owner, and an instructor, and each role allows me to serve people in a different way. Whether I’m caring for someone at the bedside or welcoming someone into the studio, my purpose remains the same: to help people feel cared for, supported, and stronger than when I met them.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that, despite how busy and social my life can look between nursing, teaching, and running Align & Sculpt, I really value the quiet moments in life. I love having time to slow down, reset, and simply be present with my family. I think that side of me is actually a big part of why I’ve grown to love intentional movement so much. I spend so much of my life caring for others, leading classes, and constantly being “on,” so I’ve learned how important it is to create moments where I can reconnect with myself. It’s also something I hope people feel when they walk into Align & Sculpt, that taking care of yourself doesn’t always have to mean doing more. Sometimes it means slowing down, being present, and giving yourself space to breathe.
