Today we’d like to introduce you to Glo Bueno.
Hi Glo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is pretty typical, growing up in a small town (for majority of my childhood) i joined theatre (lived and breathed it) which then would snowball into something bigger. When i was not in school, i pretty much studied pop-culture on my own. I always knew i wanted to be creative, not question about it. Although I grew up in a very abusive home environment, i was able to find an escapism- overall, i found myself ingesting a multitude of creative outlets such as manga, anime, fiction books, photography, fashion, movies and music which TRULY saved me down the road from severe depression. In 2009, i moved to san antonio where i then would push myself to network with local filmmakers and other types of creatives at any event i possibly could attend. Next thing you know i’m doing my thing as a local indie actress, photographer, burlesque performer, writer, body paint performer/model and currently an amateur music artist. I’m a jack of all trades but a master of non BUT! i’m living and loving life with all my creative friends and most importantly my partner.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely more than a rough road, not only did i experience bullying at home by one parent (which was the root of my low self-esteem and self worth) but later on in life i would also find myself (very few situations) in situations where some creatives wanted to be competitive in unhealthy ways and i just had to learn to pull back and roll with the punches. I do not like competing with other creatives, i’d rather collab!
I think because i grew up in an environment where there was a lack of healthy support and communication- i never wanted to be that lack of support for the community- i always wanted to be the help.
One thing about me, is that i love supporting all creatives and i’m always willing to help as much as i can.
Another thing i’d like to share is- that growing up poor in a small town, it did make me feel as if i would never be able to obtain the resources or tools to create the opportunities that i’ve already created for myself thus far.
Growing up as the oldest daughter and first generation of the family, there’s just a lot of chaos and unknowns. So many individuals in my position fall into the idea that they have to give up/ sacrifice their dreams to provide for their families. I always feared i would do the same (be another statistic) but later down the road i pushed myself to create that window of balance, so i don’t live with regret.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, i guess i would say i’m most known for being an indie film actress, burlesque performer, photographer and a little baby music artist haha.
I’m most proud of my photography and music videos i helped my boyfriend shoot for our friends in the local music scene!
I don’t think there’s anything that really sets me apart from other creatives, but if i had to pick one thing maybe… just maybe it’s my mindset of not wanting to compete but instead having the mind set of supporting/collabing AKA i’m no hater but an appreciator.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
If i could put the biggest laughing emoji in here i would! but to answer the question, i would see myself as someone who has horrible luck BUT! i’m always pushing through and finding solutions to tackle the obstacles to get where i need to be. I just roll with the punches! I’m the definition of a silver lining or ” just hanging by a thread… but nonetheless i’m hanging in there”
In life bad things will always happen but i know that i just have to create and figure out that “luck” for myself.
