Rising Stars: Meet Kaitlynn Spencer of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlynn Spencer.

Hi Kaitlynn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ironically, I never liked having my picture taken growing up. That all changed when my daughter was born. Suddenly, I couldn’t take enough photos. I wanted to document every little moment—the tiny details that change so quickly and are so easy to forget.

That experience completely changed how I viewed photography. I realized photographs aren’t just images; they’re a way of freezing time. They preserve the crinkle of a child’s nose when they laugh, the way tiny hands fit perfectly in yours, or the smile of a loved one before they’re gone.

What started as a desire to capture memories for my own family quickly grew into a passion for doing the same for others. Today, my goal is to create photographs that tell a story and become treasured keepsakes for years to come. Life moves so fast, but photographs give us the chance to hold onto the moments that matter most.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most small business owners, I’ve had moments of self-doubt and wondered if I was good enough. Building a business from the ground up while raising a family hasn’t always been easy, and there have been seasons where balancing everything felt overwhelming.

Photography is also so much more than just taking pictures. Learning the business side—marketing, pricing, editing, client communication, and wearing all the different hats—has been a challenge in itself.

But every obstacle has helped me grow. Seeing my clients’ reactions when they receive their galleries reminds me why I started in the first place. Knowing I’ve captured memories they’ll cherish for generations makes every late night and every challenge worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in capturing the moments that families will treasure for a lifetime. Whether it’s welcoming a new baby, documenting the chaos and beauty of young children, or simply preserving this season of life, my goal is always the same—to create timeless images that feel genuine.

I’m most proud of the connections I build with my clients. I want every session to feel relaxed and natural, not stiff or overly posed. Some of my favorite images come from the in-between moments—the laughter, the hugs, the silly faces, and the quiet glances that truly reflect who a family is.

What sets me apart is that I photograph with the future in mind. I’m not just taking pictures for social media; I’m creating memories that I hope will be passed down for generations. Years from now, I want my clients to look back at their galleries and remember exactly how that season of life felt. If I can give someone that gift, then I’ve done my job.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is spending time with my family. The older I get, the more I realize how quickly life passes. Watching my daughter grow, making memories with the people I love, and appreciating the simple, everyday moments are what mean the most to me.

I think that’s also why I love photography so much. Knowing that the images I create will one day become treasured memories is incredibly fulfilling. There’s something special about freezing a moment in time that can never be recreated.
