Meet Rosa Castillo of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Castillo.

Hi Rosa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my fitness journey 3 years ago in 2023, I was 27 at the time & had grown very uncomfortable in my body, as well I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure & Sleep Apena being so young with these health issues was very concerning for me so I decided to try losing weight. My fitness journey started off with 3 days in the gym then I built up to 5 days a week in the gym & have grown to love working out again. I was a student athlete in high school so I learned a lot of my weight lifting technique then. It was thankfully like muscle memory getting back into it & I just needed to focus on building up my strength & balance again. In congruence with weight lifting I started out on a calorie deficit. All my life I tried to lose weight with extreme dieting & exercise & nothing ever seemed to stick. A great mind shift for me was learning to understand these habits are going to be my habits for the rest of my life. This is why I had to learn how to make these lifestyle changes sustainable for me to be able to do for them for the rest of my life. After I lost my first 40lbs I thought it would be great if I started documenting my journey for social media. I wanted to show other people going through the same struggles that they can do it too. My content is made to inspire others to take on goals that have for themselves & be able to achieve them in a sustainable & balanced way. I want people to feel like they can also take on challenges & build confidence by making promises to themselves & keeping them. I believe anyone can achieve the dreams on their heart so long as they are willing to bet on themselves & build the habits to get there.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly this has been the hardest journey I’ve ever had but everything I’ve learned & all the growth I’ve gained has been so worth it.

The biggest struggle for me is lowering my caloric intake as I lose weight. With weightlifting you can get more hungry than normal but that’s where the discipline comes in & you have to remind yourself you have goals to meet & you need to do the things you need to do to get there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a desk job as a recruiter who works a 8-5, Monday – Friday.

It’s in the nonprofit space & it’s pretty inspiring to see the differences made in people’s lives who benefit from the company I work for.

I’m most proud of the way I have been able to structure my routines to still meet my fitness goals while having a full time job. I’ve trained myself to get up early at 4am so I can make my 5am workouts, that works better for me as someone who doesn’t get home til almost 6pm at the end of a workday & I’ve learned how to optimize my time on the weekends to meal prep & plan my week ahead so I can be set up for success while I go to work throughout the week.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My ability to not reply on motivation is what makes my journey successful. I don’t believe in feeling motivated. I believe you have to rely on discipline & your understanding that prioritizing your health & fitness should be a priority in your every day.
