Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria Barriga.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story is really a story of following my dreams, embracing unexpected opportunities, and constantly reinventing myself.
I was born in Ecuador, and I loved acting and performing from a very young age. When I came to the United States, I started working different jobs while trying to find my place and build a life here. I became a mother at 21, and around 24, I started pursuing acting more seriously. I did my first short film, followed by other projects, and I knew that storytelling and being in front of the camera were something I truly loved.
Then something unexpected happened. I often joke that “meteorology found me” At the time, I was actually looking for acting opportunities when I was offered my first weather anchor position in Washington, D.C. I decided to take the opportunity, and what started almost by chance became a major chapter of my life.
That opportunity led me into broadcast television, where I spent more than a decade working as a meteorologist, reporter, and TV personality. Along the way, I had the privilege of connecting with audiences, telling stories, and eventually becoming an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist.
But acting never left me. It was always part of who I was, and eventually I decided to return to that passion and pursue acting professionally again. Last year, shortly after getting back into acting, I landed a supporting role in the Lifetime movie *Ten Thousand Reasons for Revenge*. That was a huge accomplishment for me because I was essentially starting that part of my career again, and to have the opportunity to be part of a Lifetime film so early in my return was incredibly meaningful.
Today, I see all of these experiences as connected. Acting taught me to tell stories, television taught me how to communicate and connect with people, and motherhood taught me resilience and perspective. Those experiences also inspired me to create **Valeria Sin Guion**, where I help others communicate with confidence, find their authentic voice, and feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
When I look back, my path was never exactly what I imagined. I came to the U.S. pursuing a life and a dream, became a mother very young, discovered a career I never expected, built a successful career in television, and eventually found my way back to the passion I had as a little girl. I think that’s what makes my story so meaningful: sometimes the unexpected detours aren’t taking you away from your dream—they’re preparing you for it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. There have been plenty of bumps, unexpected turns, and moments when I had to remind myself to keep going.
I became a mother at 21, and when my second daughter was only five months old, I became a single mom. Raising two little girls while building a career came with a lot of responsibility and pressure. I was incredibly fortunate to have my parents as a key support system during those early years. Their help allowed me to continue pursuing my career while being present for my daughters.
My career also hasn’t followed a traditional path. I started out wanting to act, then unexpectedly found myself in meteorology and built a successful career in television. Years later, returning to acting meant starting over in many ways—auditioning, hearing “no,” and putting myself out there again.
But every challenge taught me resilience. I’ve learned that success isn’t about having a perfectly smooth road; it’s about continuing to move forward, trusting yourself, and being willing to reinvent yourself when life takes you somewhere unexpected.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Today, I wear several hats, but at the core of everything I do is communication and storytelling. I’m an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and TV host, a bilingual actress, and a communication coach and content creator.
After more than a decade in broadcast television, I’m now also pursuing my lifelong passion for acting. Recently, I landed a supporting role in the Lifetime movie *Ten Thousand Reasons for Revenge*, which was especially meaningful because I had just returned to acting.
Through Valeria Sin Guion, I also help people communicate with confidence and authenticity, especially in front of the camera.
What I’m most proud of, though, is not an award or a title. It’s that I’ve been able to preserve my enthusiasm and optimism through every chapter of my life. No matter what I’ve faced, I’ve always chosen to look for the good, the lesson, or the opportunity. I think that spirit, combined with my experience on both sides of the camera, is what sets me apart.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say my ability to stay optimistic and keep moving forward. I’ve always been someone who looks for the good, even when things don’t go according to plan. Life has taken me in directions I never expected, and instead of letting the unexpected stop me, I’ve learned to adapt, reinvent myself, and remain excited about what’s next.
I think that combination of resilience and enthusiasm has been one of the biggest keys to my success. I don’t give up easily, and I genuinely believe that every experience—good or difficult—has something to teach me.
