Conversations with ShaRon Maxwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to ShaRon Maxwell.

Hi ShaRon , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a lieutenant of correctional officers and also a home chef. I started in corrections when I was 25 only out of necessity. I’ve always loved cooking and it started with watching my aunt cook. She never taught me how but I learned by watching her and other people. I love watching cooking shows and learning new techniques When my grandmother got sick she would ask me to cook for her. She would tell me what I needed to do and I would make her meals just the way she wanted. I loved it. I then start to experiment with my own recipes and fail so many times but I never gave up. I love to cook. Cooking comes naturally to me now. I’m always trying something new. It’s amazing. I was recently offered a chance to have my own cooking show on a streaming network called GOT TV. I’m very excited about this opportunity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No it hasn’t been smooth. My catering business has faced challenges. It was very hard to get people to take me seriously. I would.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a lieutenant in a correctional facility. I’ve been working in corrections for about 20 years now and in those years I’ve seen many things in my career in corrections. My true passion is not corrections and never will be. I’ve always loved cooking because it means more than just food, it means fellowship, love and togetherness. I started working in corrections only because I was a young mother with two young children who I needed to support. So I chose corrections all while teaching myself to cook. My friends know me best for my cooking and my heart and I’m very proud of that. I have had the privilege of adaptability. I’ve had to evolve and change for both of my careers and I am better for it. That’s what makes me different

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people don’t know that all of my signature dishes were created out of hunger. I make my best meals when I’m starving.
