Today we’d like to introduce you to Lissa Zapata.
Hi Lissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
If you had asked me years ago where life would lead, I never would have imagined that my journey would bring me back home to San Antonio, helping families navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Looking back now, I can see how every chapter prepared me for the work I do today.
I’m a proud San Antonio native and a first-generation American. My parents immigrated from the Dominican Republic in search of greater opportunities for our family, and they raised me to believe that integrity, hard work, and serving others are the true measures of success. Those values have shaped every chapter of my life.
For more than two decades, my family lived the military relocation lifestyle. We moved across the country several times, and every new duty station meant starting over—finding a new community, helping our daughters adjust to new schools, and learning how to make an unfamiliar place feel like home. During that time, I had the privilege of serving as a Navy Command Ombudsman for a pre-commissioning ship, supporting sailors and their families through deployments, transitions, and life’s unexpected challenges. After returning to San Antonio, I was humbled to be recognized as the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® for Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland in both 2017 and 2018. Those experiences taught me how to advocate for others, communicate with compassion, and lead with service—lessons that continue to guide me every day.
In 2016, I earned my real estate license, thinking I was simply beginning a new career. What I discovered was a profession that perfectly aligned with everything life had already taught me. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping more than 300 families buy, sell, build, lease, invest, and relocate throughout San Antonio and the surrounding Hill Country. As my business has grown, I’ve also expanded into property management so I can continue serving my clients well beyond the closing table.
Like many women, my journey has also included seasons that required me to rebuild, grow, and discover strengths I didn’t know I had. Learning to navigate life independently while building a business taught me resilience, confidence, and the importance of trusting myself. Those experiences gave me something no designation or certification ever could—they gave me empathy. Today, when I sit across from a client, I don’t just see a transaction. I see someone’s hopes, worries, goals, and the next chapter they’re preparing to write.
If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s that success isn’t about having a perfect path. It’s about showing up with integrity, treating people well, and continuing to move forward, even when life asks you to begin again.
At the end of the day, I don’t believe my purpose is simply helping people buy or sell homes. My purpose is helping people navigate change with confidence, protecting their best interests, and earning their trust during one of the most important moments of their lives. That’s a responsibility I’ll never take for granted, and it’s the legacy I hope to leave behind.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey because every challenge has shaped the woman I am today.
There was a season in my life when everything changed. I found myself navigating life in a completely different way, carrying responsibilities that had once been shared while trying to grow my business. It was one of the most difficult—and ultimately most transformative—chapters of my life.
For the first time, every decision rested on my shoulders. I had to lead my business with confidence while managing a household, making difficult financial decisions, and trusting myself to figure things out one step at a time. There were moments of uncertainty, long nights, and more tears than anyone ever saw—but there was also growth.
Entrepreneurship has a way of stretching you. Behind every milestone are countless sacrifices, difficult conversations, and moments when you question yourself. I realized that success isn’t built on the days everything goes right. It’s built on the days you choose to keep going when nothing feels certain.
That season taught me resilience, but it also taught me grace. I stopped believing I had to have all the answers and started trusting my ability to find them. I discovered that strength isn’t about carrying every burden alone—it’s about having the courage to ask for help, remain open to growth, and never lose sight of who you are.
Those experiences changed the way I lead my business and the way I serve my clients. They gave me a deeper understanding that everyone is carrying something you can’t see. Because of that, I strive to lead every conversation with empathy, patience, honesty, and compassion. When someone comes to me during a major life transition, I understand they’re often carrying much more than the details of a real estate transaction. That perspective has made me a better listener, a stronger advocate, and a more compassionate professional.
I’ve come to believe that life has a remarkable way of rebuilding us—not into the person we once were, but into the person we were always capable of becoming. Looking back, I wouldn’t erase the difficult chapters because they gave me resilience, perspective, and the confidence to trust myself through life’s uncertainties.
Today, I’m grateful for every lesson, every setback, and every new beginning because each one shaped not only the business I’ve built, but also the woman I’ve become. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, but I’m even more grateful for the resilience, perspective, and compassion I gained along the way. Those qualities have become the true measure of my success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is built on one simple philosophy: helping people make confident real estate decisions through education, honesty, and relationships built on trust. I want clients to know they’re never just another transaction. Whether they’re buying, selling, renting, leasing, investing, or managing a property, my goal is to provide guidance they can rely on long after the paperwork is signed.
I specialize in residential real estate throughout San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country, and surrounding communities, assisting first-time homebuyers, growing families, military families, investors, homeowners, landlords, and tenants. Over the years, I’ve expanded my services to include leasing and property management because I believe every stage of someone’s real estate journey deserves the same level of care, communication, and advocacy.
If there’s one thing I hope I’m known for, it’s trust. I don’t believe in high-pressure sales or telling people what they want to hear. I believe in listening first, educating throughout the process, communicating openly, and helping my clients make decisions that are in their best interests. Sometimes that means moving forward with confidence, and sometimes it means encouraging someone to wait until the timing is right. Either way, they’ll know my advice is always honest.
What I believe truly sets me apart is that I understand buying or selling a home is rarely just about real estate. Through my own experiences with relocation and navigating life’s transitions, I’ve learned that every move tells a story. It may represent a first apartment, a growing family, military orders, retirement, financial independence, or the opportunity to begin again. I never lose sight of the responsibility that comes with helping someone through one of the biggest financial and emotional decisions of their life.
What I’m most proud of is that my business has grown almost entirely through relationships, referrals, and repeat clients. There is no greater compliment than when someone trusts me enough to recommend me to their family, friends, coworkers, or even the next generation. To me, that says more than any award ever could because trust is earned one relationship at a time.
Beyond helping clients with real estate, I’m passionate about serving the community I call home. I enjoy highlighting local businesses, sharing neighborhood insights, educating consumers about the market, and helping people discover everything that makes San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country such incredible places to live. I want people to know that when they work with me, they’re gaining more than a REALTOR®. They’re gaining an advocate, an educator, and someone who genuinely cares about helping them make one of the most important decisions of their lives with confidence, clarity, and peace of mind.
What’s next?
The truth is, I’m still figuring that out—and I’ve learned to be okay with not having every step mapped out. For so many years, I felt like I always needed to know exactly what came next. Today, I’m learning to embrace the unknown, stay open to new opportunities, and trust that each new chapter will unfold exactly when it’s meant to.
Professionally, I’ll continue doing what I love most: helping people navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives with honesty, education, and trust. I look forward to continuing to grow my business, expand my property management services, and serve buyers, sellers, renters, landlords, investors, and families throughout San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country. More than anything, I want to continue building relationships that last long after closing day.
Outside of work, I want to experience more of the world around me. I love traveling, hiking, spending time in nature, discovering hidden gems, and trying eclectic local restaurants. One of my favorite things is exploring different communities and learning what makes each one unique—the history, the people, the small businesses, and the culture that give a place its character. Those experiences not only bring me joy, but they also inspire me personally and professionally.
I’m also passionate about supporting local businesses and shining a light on the people who make San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country such incredible places to live. I believe communities are built by the entrepreneurs, artists, veterans, and small business owners who invest their hearts into what they do, and I hope to continue using my platform to celebrate them.
At this stage of my life, success looks different than it once did. It’s no longer about having all the answers or chasing the next milestone. It’s about living with intention, continuing to grow, staying curious, and making a positive impact wherever I can. If I can continue helping people find a place they love to call home while building a life filled with meaningful relationships, new experiences, and purpose, I’ll consider that a future well lived.
