Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Olivares.
Hi Hector, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into plumbing began when I was 19 years old and had just become a young father. Wanting to provide for my family, I quickly joined the construction industry, where I was introduced to different trades on job sites. I remember talking with plumbers who told me that learning a trade could change my future because plumbing is something people will always need. That advice stayed with me, and I decided to take that path.
Over the years, I discovered that plumbing is about much more than repairing pipes or clearing drains. It requires patience, problem-solving, communication, and a commitment to doing the job right. I gained hands-on experience, earned my licenses, and learned that the most important part of the job is building trust through honest work and quality craftsmanship.
Those experiences eventually inspired me to start Toros Plumbing. My goal wasn’t simply to own a business it was to create a company built on integrity, reliability, and genuine customer care. I wanted every homeowner to feel confident that they were working with someone who would treat their home with the same respect as if it were my own.
While Toros Plumbing is a newer company, the experience behind it has been built over many years in the trade. Every job is another opportunity to serve our community, continue growing, and build a reputation that customers can rely on for years to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting Toros Plumbing has been one of my biggest challenges. I quickly learned that being a skilled plumber is only part of the job. Running a business means wearing many different hats like answering calls, scheduling jobs, marketing, managing finances, and making sure every customer has a great experience.
Like many small business owners, building a customer base and earning trust from the community has taken time. There have been long days, unexpected challenges, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. But every obstacle has made me a better business owner and strengthened my commitment to providing honest service, quality workmanship, and treating every customer with respect.
We’ve been impressed with Toros Plumbing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Toros Plumbing, we specialize in residential plumbing services while also providing plumbing solutions for commercial properties. We handle everything from water heaters, water softeners, drain cleaning, sewer camera inspections, fixture installations, re-piping, pressure-reducing valves (PRVs), and general plumbing repairs.
What sets us apart is our commitment to honest communication, quality workmanship, and treating every customer’s home or business with the care and respect it deserves. We believe in explaining the problem, offering straightforward solutions, and doing the job right the first time.
Our goal is to build lasting relationships and become a trusted name for plumbing services throughout San Antonio and the surrounding communities.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe there’s always something to learn from the people around you. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside experienced plumbers who were willing to share their knowledge and teach me the trade. My advice is to stay humble, ask questions, and never be afraid to learn from those with more experience. Networking has also been important because building relationships and having a good reputation can open doors you never expected. At the end of the day, hard work, a willingness to learn, and treating people with respect will take you a long way.
