Community Highlights: Meet Karla of Poderosa & Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla.

Hi Karla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Poderosa from my kitchen table with a passion for creating handmade polymer clay earrings and a dream of building something that reflected my culture and creativity. What began as a small side business quickly grew because of the incredible support from my community. Every order reminded me that people weren’t just buying jewelry, they were connecting with my story.

Over the past few years, Poderosa has evolved into so much more than jewelry. Today, I’m the founder of Poderosa & Co., a Latina-owned collective boutique in San Antonio that brings together dozens of small businesses under one roof. My mission has always been to create opportunities for other entrepreneurs while building a space where our community feels seen, celebrated, and inspired.

Like any small business owner, my journey hasn’t been without challenges. There have been long nights, moments of self-doubt, financial risks, and countless lessons learned along the way. But every obstacle has helped shape the business into what it is today. I’m incredibly proud that what started as one woman’s dream has grown into a thriving community of makers, artists, and shoppers who genuinely support one another.

At the heart of everything I do is the belief that when one of us succeeds, we all rise. Poderosa isn’t just the name of my business, it’s a reminder that every woman has the power to chase her dreams, take up space, and create something meaningful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped me grow. I’ve had to learn how to balance being a mom, a business owner, and everything that comes with running a growing brand. There have been moments of doubt, financial challenges, and a lot of learning along the way, but those experiences have made me stronger and more determined. Seeing how far Poderosa has come and the community we’ve built makes every challenge worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Poderosa & Co started as my handmade polymer clay jewelry business and has grown into a Latina-owned boutique that celebrates culture, creativity, and community. We offer handmade jewelry, curated clothing, accessories, and products from talented local makers, with a special focus on supporting other small and Latina-owned businesses.

What makes us different is that we’re not just selling products, we’re creating an experience. Every piece has a story, and every vendor we welcome into our space adds something special to our Poderosa family. I’m most proud of building a brand that represents empowerment, community, and the idea that we can all make our dreams a reality.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is the life I’ve been able to build, being a mom, a wife, corgi mom and creating a business that I’m truly passionate about. I love spending time with my family, making memories with my kids, and enjoying moments with my amigas who have supported me throughout this journey. I also find so much joy in creating, connecting with my customers, and watching other small business owners grow alongside me. Being able to build a space that celebrates our culture, brings people together, and inspires others is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
