Conversations with Heather King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather King.

Hi Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
How did all of this come about?

Well… if we’re being honest, it came out of destruction.

I had just given birth and was being consistently tortured by a relationship. After finally getting out of that situation, a woman gave me things to do to keep my mind busy. She could see the old damage being uncovered by the new damage.

She handed me broken jewelry, stones, boxes, and a table and simply said…

“Can you make me something?”

How could I not?

She saved me and my baby.

Justus Kings was born that day.

For years, I refurbished vintage jewelry, created art I never thought I would make, and slowly found myself stepping into producing shows.

Honestly… that part was completely by accident. 🤣

I was just trying to help the venue that had given me space function more smoothly.

Then one day, a small group of artists and vendors approached me and said:

“If you ever leave, we will follow you.”

I stood there stunned, because I had never even considered doing it on my own.

But that was all I needed to hear.

Justus Kings expanded that day.

The Justus Kings events eventually led to the creation of The DollHaus.

By that point, I had seen every side of events. I knew where the cracks were. I knew what was missing. And I decided to try to fill those spaces.

It has been a bumpy ride. We have had plenty of ups and downs, challenges, mistakes, and moments where I questioned everything.

But we have also built something truly incredible.

And now, we have been recognized by our city as San Antonio’s Best Burlesque Troupe for 2025–2026. 🏆✨

When I look back, I realize none of this started with a perfect plan.

It started with destruction.

Then someone handed me broken pieces and asked me to make something beautiful.

And somehow… I did.

💨✨🖤If you want, I can also make this more emotional and inspirational, more concise for Instagram, or turn it into a powerful spoken-word/video voiceover script.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The obstacles and struggles we have faced have been varied, to say the least.

Every artist faces challenges. That is simply part of this industry. But I also believe it comes down to what you are willing to accept—and what you are willing to stand up for.

We have experienced pushback from other performers and faced challenges from different directions, but never enough to deter us from our mission.

We think as a unit.

We understand that what we do individually affects the entire collective. Every choice, every action, every success, and every mistake can impact the people standing beside us.

That level of awareness is important to us.

We are a family.

And after everything we have faced, everything we have overcome, and everything we have built together…

We are strong.

We are united.

And at this point?

We are unshakable. 🖤✨

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
DollHaus is a safe space. A place where performers can come for guidance, support, opportunity, and most importantly, love.

We came together because many of us experienced a lack of community and genuine support. We wanted to build something different.

DollHaus started as a dream and an idea. But the cast gave it life. They helped shape it, strengthen it, and establish the standard we hold ourselves to today.

DollHaus isn’t a hobby. It’s a way of life

Any big plans?
Well, we are beginning to expand in so many exciting ways, and we’ve been fortunate enough to be approached by several new ventures and opportunities.

The future of DollHaus is looking bigger than ever. We’re continuing to grow, evolve, and find new ways to bring our unique brand of entertainment and community to more people.

Hopefully, very soon, you’ll be seeing DollHaus everywhere! ✨💨
