Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Salinas.
Hi Isaiah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey with music started long before I ever stepped behind the decks. Growing up, I was surrounded by it. Some of my cousins were well-known musicians and DJs in San Antonio, so music was always part of family gatherings and everyday life. Watching my cousins in Collective Dreams perform and seeing DJ Guero connect with crowds showed me at a young age that music wasn’t just something you listened to—it was something that could bring people together and create lasting memories. Their passion and success in the city’s music scene inspired me to find my own path.
As I got older, that inspiration turned into a passion for DJing and producing. I began developing my own sound by blending house music, hip-hop, and Latin influences while learning that every performance is an opportunity to tell a story and create an experience people won’t forget. Every venue, event, and crowd has helped shape me into the artist I’m becoming.
Like many independent artists, my journey hasn’t been linear. I’ve balanced full-time work, personal responsibilities, and preparing for the next chapter of my life while continuing to invest in my craft. Those experiences have taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of staying consistent even when no one is watching.
Today, my goal is to build something that’s entirely my own. While I’m grateful for the foundation my family gave me, I’m focused on creating a unique identity, pushing my sound forward, and representing San Antonio with pride. The people who inspired me showed me what was possible—now I’m working every day to leave my own mark on the city’s music scene and beyond.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many independent artists, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing life with the pursuit of music. There were times when I was working long hours, managing responsibilities outside of music, and still finding the time and energy to practice, network, and take on gigs. Building a name for yourself takes patience, and there are moments where opportunities don’t come as quickly as you hope.
Another challenge has been learning to trust my own creative direction. It’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel pressure to follow trends, but I’ve learned that meaningful growth comes from staying authentic and continuing to develop your own voice. Every performance, every connection, and every opportunity has taught me something new about my craft and myself.
At the same time, I’ve been preparing for a career as a Navy officer, which has required discipline, commitment, and the ability to adapt. Rather than seeing these paths as separate, I’ve learned that the lessons from one strengthen the other. The discipline I’ve developed through that process has carried over into my music, reminding me that preparation, consistency, and resilience are essential.
Looking back, I believe everything happens for a reason. The challenges, setbacks, and unexpected turns have all played a role in shaping who I am today. I’ve learned that patience is one of the greatest builders in life—it teaches you how to adapt, grow, and appreciate the journey while continuing to move forward. Music has taught me that growth doesn’t happen overnight; it happens through persistence, purpose, and trusting the process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is centered around creating experiences through music. I’m a DJ and producer focused on blending different worlds together—bringing the energy of house music, the storytelling of hip-hop, and the culture and rhythm of Latin influences into a sound that feels unique to me.
As a DJ, I specialize in reading the room and creating an atmosphere where people feel connected. For me, a set is more than just playing songs—it’s about creating a journey, understanding the energy of a crowd, and giving people a moment they can remember. Whether it’s a nightlife event, a community gathering, or a special celebration, my goal is always to make the music feel personal.
Beyond performing, I’ve been focused on developing my own production style and building an identity as an artist. I’m inspired by creators who pushed boundaries and created their own lanes, from the innovative sounds of The Neptunes and J Dilla to the creativity and individuality of artists who aren’t afraid to experiment.
What I’m most proud of is the growth I’ve experienced—from being a kid inspired by the musicians and DJs around me to creating my own opportunities and becoming part of San Antonio’s music scene. Seeing people connect with something I created is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
What sets me apart is my willingness to blend different influences while staying true to my roots. I’m not trying to fit into one category—I’m focused on creating a sound and experience that represents my background, my city, and my vision as an artist.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that relationships are built through genuine connection, not just what someone can do for you. Finding mentors and building a network starts with showing up, being consistent, and being willing to learn. Some of the most valuable opportunities I’ve received came from simply being present, supporting others, and building real relationships within the community.
Throughout my journey, networking has played a major role in creating opportunities. By staying consistent and putting myself out there, I’ve been fortunate enough to perform for organizations, businesses, and community events throughout San Antonio, including KSAT 12, TruFit, Chick-fil-A, and numerous grand openings for local businesses. Each opportunity has allowed me to connect with new audiences, strengthen relationships, and continue building my presence within the city’s creative scene.
I’ve also been able to build a small but growing fan base online while developing connections within San Antonio’s music and nightlife community. Beyond events and corporate gatherings, I’ve enjoyed being part of the nightlife scene and creating experiences for people in spaces that bring the community together. Being connected with Chifladas, a local staple in San Antonio’s culture and nightlife, has allowed me to continue growing as an artist while staying connected to the people and places that make this city special.
My advice for anyone looking for a mentor is to find people whose work ethic, character, and journey inspire you—not just people who have the success you want. A good mentor can offer guidance, but they also challenge you to grow and help you see possibilities you may not have considered.
I’ve learned that networking is a two-way street. It’s not just about asking for opportunities; it’s about showing up, supporting others, and bringing value to every relationship you build. The strongest connections come from mutual respect and a genuine interest in creating something together.
The biggest thing I’ve learned is to be patient and trust the process. Growth doesn’t happen overnight. Continue improving your craft, stay consistent, and put yourself in rooms where opportunities can find you. The right relationships often come when you’re focused on doing the work and staying authentic to your vision.
