Meet Tina Lain of Gold Dust Cosmetic Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Lain.

Hi Tina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Scottsdale Arizona, Tina left the desert to make the Sparkling City by the Bay her home in 1991. Married to tattoo artist, Chris Lain, together founded Pinnacle Tattoo, Corpus Christi’s premier tattoo studio in early 2007. Pinnacle provided the perfect platform for Tina to immerse herself in the artistry of cosmetic tattooing while nurturing her artistic hand and acquiring an extensive background in the art of tattooing. She is a licensed certified intradermal technician with master certification specializing in brow artistry, restorative areola + nipple tattooing, and scalp micropigmentation. Her skill and artistry in restorative micropigmentation has led her to work with some of Texas’ leading cosmetic and plastic surgeons. She has dedicated her practice to paving a path for her client’s triumphant return to wholeness.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The inception of Gold Dust was one initially created out of heartbreak turned happiness. After receiving the devastating news my father was terminally ill with lung cancer, I needed to turn this negative news into a positive understanding and thus began volunteering with my local American Cancer Society (ACS) office.

Spending time with the warriors provided me with a firsthand glimpse into the war they were valiantly fighting. Many individuals opened up and shared their journey with me; their struggles and their success in overcoming cancer. With this, some shared the challenges faced with chemo and radiation, specifically the overwhelming sense of dread as they lost their hair, their eyebrows, and in many instances their breasts. In this, I had the luxury to look within and ask myself how could I help?

While my father’s diagnosis was news no one ever is ever prepared to hear, this same diagnosis pushed me out of my comfort zone and led me to create Gold Dust Cosmetic Collective. With my loving husband by my side and an overwhelming desire to make a difference, I left my long-standing career in the legal field and opens a safe space, a nurturing studio designed to serve everyone seeking cosmetic beauty enhancements by way of tattooing. A studio in which everyone is provided the opportunity to experience their own triumphant return to wholeness.

My father lost his battle with cancer, but before he did we shared 18-months together. We created, cultivated, and nurtured a beautiful adult friendship based on mutual respect and admiration for one another. And while he didn’t have the time here to see Gold Dust give, I’m confident he sees just the same today.

Like all other small business owners, I too have had to navigate the pits and perils of new business ownership. The ebb and flow of profit and loss can be detrimental if we don’t mindfully forge forward. The fundamental foundation of Gold Dust was designed and continues to operate with a wholehearted investment into our community, our clientele, and ourselves. Pretty packaging and products are nice and can serve a purpose, however, cultivating new relationships and nurturing existing ones ensure our fruitful future.

The studio, much like every woman within her has evolved. Once a one-woman show, we have grown into a team of 7-women traditionally educated and classically trained in our respective fields. Gold Dust is truly a collective of professionals offering cosmetic tattooing, medical aesthetics, skincare, lash services, and permanent jewelry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
By professional title, I am a cosmetic tattoo artist. By passion, I strive to produce a natural appearance of cosmetically tattooed eyebrows for those who seek the same and/or for those who’ve sought out services for medical reasons, i.e. alopecia, autoimmune disease, thyroid issues, etc.

While each client provides for meaningful exchange, working with clients who seek enhancements for medical reasons, i.e. nipple + areola restoration for those who’ve undergone a mastectomy, breast reconstruction, and/or augmentation has a way of touching my heart. My goal is to always create and enhance realistic features for my clients while nurturing their spirits in the limited time we share together.
