Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Gonzalez.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A California-born artist with an urge to tell his story using sounds that have surrounded his life. Music has always been his drive and passion, from hearing kicks and snares of Hip-Hop through the city of Los Angeles. To hearing and being surrounded by the world of Banda Sinaloense, thanks to his father. Eric Sebastian hopes to bring all his worlds together to paint out and fill in one big canvas.
I started playing the trumpet at a very young age, thanks to my dad. From then I joined a mariachi in and outside of school and got a feel for the gigging life. I really enjoyed it especially during high school, but I just knew that I wanted to start my own group and do things a bit differently.
I then started my own grupo campirano (regional style of Mexican music) after learning the guitar and we’ve kept that going for the last 3 years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Main struggles would be balancing work life with my music, which is my main passion. It could get tricky to make sure everything is balanced and that you are investing equal time to each part of your life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently a full time student in between different internships. I do a lot of marketing work as well as advertising. I am just trying to find the perfect mix to incorporate my advertising skills with my music side of things.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
During college, I started really getting into philosophy. I am currently reading a book called “Outwitting the devil” by Napoleon Hill and it really had me invested. I also enjoy watching films and reading some comics from time to time.
Pricing:
- As a group we currently charge $450 an hour for live music.
- We’ve also thankfully gotten to perform at SXSW AND FIESTA SAN ANTONIO.
