Meet Vanessa Sosa of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Sosa.

Vanessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My path to the salon chair was anything but a straight line. After beauty school, a lack of confidence kept me away from the industry for four years. Ready for a comeback, I took an advanced masterclass in Californiato sharpemm my skills. From there, I put in the work, assisting clinbing into salon management and eventually becoming a cosmetology instructor at an Aveda Institute. Teaching reignited my spark, but it was a multi-year mentorship under an amazing stylist that truly transformed my career. Today, i am proudly self- employed, collaborating daily with an incredible team that inspires me daily.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definately hasn’t been a smooth road! As a natuarally shy person, pushing myself to communicate effectively was a major hurdle. I also had to build confidence in my craft, which I did by attending regular classes, As the saying goes, “Knowledge destroys fear!” Ultimately, I had to believe in myself and my capabilities to successfully run my own business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Simply put, ‘m a hairstylist.
My specialty is precision haircutting, and Ive built a reputaion among my clients and peers as the go-to “curly hair specialist” though I thoroughly enjoy working with all hair types and textures. I’m incredibly proud of how much Ive grown both in my technique and personal confidence. I’d say what sets me apart behind the chair is my attention to detail.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
5-10 years is so broad and many trends can surface and go within that time.
90’s grunge era is currently making a massive comeback. It really plays into the effortless, low-maintenance vibe we are loving today.
Down the line, Im predicting more gender-fluid styles.. “Feminine” haircuts becoming shorter and more structured and “masculine” styles longer and more fluid.
