Life & Work with Victoria Fuse of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Fuse.

Victoria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has been anything but traditional. I’m a wife, mother of four, Army veteran, entrepreneur, and now a published children’s author. Throughout my life, I’ve worn many hats, but one thing has always remained constant: my passion for helping others feel seen, valued, and confident in who they are.

As a mother, I became increasingly aware of the importance of representation and positive self-image, especially for children with natural hair. I wanted my children to grow up seeing beauty in themselves and embracing the unique qualities that make them who they are. That desire eventually inspired me to write my first children’s book, “Mommy, My Curls Talked to Me.”

The book was born from real conversations, experiences, and moments within my own family. I wanted to create a story that celebrates self-love, confidence, and the beauty of natural curls while giving children a positive message they can carry with them throughout life. Seeing children connect with the story, smile at the illustrations, and recognize themselves in its pages has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my journey.

Along the way, I’ve also built businesses, completed my MBA, and continued pursuing opportunities that allow me to serve my community. Each chapter of my life has taught me resilience, faith, and the importance of walking in purpose. Today, I am focused on expanding the reach of my book, connecting with families and schools, and creating meaningful work that inspires the next generation to embrace exactly who they are.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been learning how to balance being a wife, mother, entrepreneur, student, and creative all at the same time. There were many seasons where I was building my business while raising my children, managing a household, and pursuing my education. It often felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day.

As the owner of Victorious Styles & Braids, I spent years helping women and young girls feel beautiful and confident through their hair. While the business was successful and allowed me to connect with so many amazing clients, entrepreneurship came with its own challenges. There were moments of self-doubt, financial uncertainty, long hours, and the pressure of wearing every hat in the business. I had to learn how to keep moving forward even when things didn’t go as planned.

Interestingly, many of the conversations I had behind the salon chair became part of the inspiration for my book. I saw firsthand how deeply confidence, identity, and self-image impact women and children. I listened to mothers talk about teaching their daughters to love their natural hair, and I watched young girls learn to embrace their curls. Those experiences planted a seed in me.

Writing “Mommy, My Curls Talked to Me” came with its own challenges as well. I had never written and published a children’s book before, so there was a learning curve. From developing the story and finding the right illustrations to navigating the publishing process, I had to step outside of my comfort zone. There were moments when I questioned whether I was qualified, but I reminded myself that the message was bigger than my fears.

Looking back, every obstacle taught me resilience, faith, and perseverance. The challenges I faced as a business owner, student, mother, and author all prepared me for the opportunities I have today. They also reinforced my belief that when you walk in your purpose and stay committed, even the difficult seasons can become part of your success story.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a children’s author, entrepreneur, Army veteran, and mother of four. While many people know me as the author of ‘Mommy, My Curls Talked to Me,” my work began long before I published my first book.

As the owner of Victorious Styles & Braids, I spent years helping women and young girls embrace their natural beauty through protective styling and hair care. Working closely with clients allowed me to witness the powerful connection between confidence, identity, and self-image. Those experiences inspired me to expand my impact beyond the salon chair and into children’s literature.

Today, I specialize in creating work that empowers children to love themselves exactly as they are. My book, “Mommy, My Curls Talked to Me,” encourages self-confidence, self-love, and appreciation for natural hair while helping children see their uniqueness as a strength. I have also had the opportunity to share my book with children through school and community readings, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

What I am most proud of is being able to combine my personal experiences as a mother, entrepreneur, and creative into something that positively impacts others. Whether I am styling hair, speaking to families, or reading my book to a classroom, my mission remains the same: to help people see the beauty, value, and confidence that already exists within them.

What sets me apart is that my work comes from real-life experience. The lessons I share are not just ideas they are things I have lived, witnessed, and taught through both my business and my book. My goal is to create a lasting impact that helps the next generation grow up confident in who they are and proud of what makes them unique.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is knowing that something I’ve created has made a positive impact on someone’s life. Whether it’s helping a client leave my chair feeling more confident, watching a child light up while reading Mommy, My Curls Talked to Me, or hearing a parent tell me that my book helped their child embrace their natural hair, those moments mean everything to me.

My family also brings me tremendous joy. As a wife and mother of four, some of my favorite moments are the simple ones. Laughing together, creating memories, and watching my children grow into confident individuals. They are one of my greatest inspirations and the reason I strive to lead by example.

I also find happiness in serving others and walking in my purpose. I believe that God has given each of us unique gifts, and there is something incredibly fulfilling about using those gifts to encourage, inspire, and uplift others. Whether through my business, my writing, or my community involvement, I am happiest when I know I am making a meaningful difference.

At the end of the day, success isn’t just about achievements for me. It’s about impact. Knowing that I have helped someone feel seen, valued, beautiful, or empowered is what truly brings me joy.
