Community Highlights: Meet Alejandra Bocardo of Old Soul Gem

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Bocardo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to natural materials, symbolism, and the idea that objects can carry energy and meaning. Growing up in Arizona surrounded by Native American jewelry sparked an early appreciation for turquoise and pieces that feel both beautiful and intentional.

That curiosity naturally expanded into crystals and energy work, which I’ve been fascinated by for as long as I can remember. Creating jewelry became my way of exploring that connection—working with stones and wire to make pieces that feel personal, expressive, and meaningful.

Over time, that creative practice grew into Old Soul Gem, where I now also curate vintage finds and handmade objects that reflect story, energy, and intention. I also pursued Reiki and became a Reiki Master, offering both in-person and distance sessions, which deepened my understanding of energy and presence in a very real way.

Today, my work is a blend of creativity and intuition—whether through jewelry, curation, or energy work—centered on creating and sharing pieces that feel soulful and connected.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but it has been a meaningful one. A lot of my journey has been about learning through experience—figuring things out as I go, especially in the early stages when I was teaching myself how to work with wire, crystals, and eventually how to run a small business online.

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing the creative side of the work with the demands of running a business—things like consistency with social media, keeping up with orders, and learning how to present and photograph my work in a way that feels true to my style but also communicates clearly to customers.

There have also been natural seasons of change. As my life has evolved, so has my capacity and focus. Most recently, navigating pregnancy has shifted my energy and required me to pause certain parts of my practice, especially client-based Reiki work. Learning how to honor those seasons without losing connection to my creativity has been an important part of my growth.

Looking back, those challenges have shaped my style, my process, and my understanding of what sustainability looks like for me creatively and personally.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Old Soul Gem?
My business, Old Soul Gem, is a curated blend of handmade jewelry, vintage finds, and intentional objects rooted in meaning, energy, and story. I specialize in crystal-based jewelry and thoughtfully selected vintage pieces, focusing on items that feel soulful, timeless, and personally resonant rather than trend-driven or mass-produced.

What sets my work apart is the intention behind every piece. I don’t approach creating as just design—I approach it as energy and connection. Many of my jewelry pieces are one-of-a-kind or made in small batches, often created intuitively with the materials themselves guiding the process. In addition to making and curating, I also practice Reiki and infuse my work with that energy, with the intention of adding another layer of presence and meaning to each piece.

Alongside my creative work, I offer Reiki sessions both in person and at a distance, supporting clients through relaxation, grounding, and energetic balance. I also accept custom customer orders, which allows people to request specific stones, styles, or intentions so each piece can be made more personally and meaningfully.

I’m most proud of how organically Old Soul Gem has grown alongside my own life and evolution. What began as a small creative outlet has expanded into a space where I can express multiple parts of myself—artist, curator, and energy worker—through everything I create and share.

More than anything, I want readers to know that everything is made and chosen with care and intention. My goal is always to offer pieces that feel meaningful—objects that carry presence, story, and a sense of connection for the person who receives them.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that creativity and growth don’t happen in a straight line—they evolve in seasons. Early on, I thought success meant consistency in output and constantly pushing forward, but over time I’ve learned that my best work comes when I’m aligned, present, and allowing space for life to shift.

I’ve also learned the importance of trusting my intuition. Whether it’s in creating jewelry, selecting vintage pieces, or working with clients through Reiki, the moments that feel most authentic are the ones where I’m not forcing an outcome, but instead responding to what feels right in the moment.

Another key lesson has been sustainability—both creatively and personally. Building something meaningful requires balance, and I’ve had to learn how to honor my energy, especially through different life phases, without losing connection to what I love.

Overall, I’ve come to understand that the work is not just about what I create, but how I create it—with intention, presence, and trust in the process.
