Meet Darren Garcia of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Garcia.

Hi Darren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve lived in the San Antonio area my whole life, and after spending some time living in different cities, I realized that San Antonio is exactly where I wanted to be.

My fiance and I love to get out and do activities throughout the week to keep us busy. We genuinely have good times visiting the local parks, eating the cuisine, and going to the events that some of these shops host. Meanwhile, the whole time we are doing this, we keep seeing the same line all over social media. That line being “San Antonio is Boring”. It got to the point where we just couldn’t take it anymore! We wanted people to experience the San Antonio we have come to love.

So we started a page where talk about the stuff you can do in San Antonio. Since then, it’s allowed me some really cool opportunities that I would not have otherwise been able to experience.

It’s opened up some doors, allowed me to express myself creatively, and also connected me with more people in San Antonio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A lot of what you might consider ‘challenges’ have just been others opinions of the city. I know that being an adult in a place where you grew up can be hard because you want to move on and see other things.

The great part about San Antonio is that there is so much to explore, you just have to know where to look! I’m hoping that my page @notdarreneither can be that spot for people to look and get inspiration from.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I come from a background in Cinematography so a lot of what I capture has some techniques in it that maybe not many people know about. I’d like to think that by implementing some of my professional techniques that it helps me stand out!

Right now, I have been mostly doing food and local events because that is what me and my partner do most frequently. However, I would love to start planning something that takes it a step further to learn more about these shops and how they came to be.

I think I am most proud of the videos where I let me creative side take a little bit more. I add extra shots, or include certain aspects that lean a little more into the cinematography world that I come from.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel like with social media it all boils down to luck! Well, at least to some degree. I know that consistency and quality are what people tend to enjoy most when scrolling, but I have no idea how these apps decide what to show and to who. So, I do my best to create what I feel is authentic to me, and also authentic to the subject I am trying to present!

I’m honestly just so lucky to even be able to share what I can, and that people feel compelled enough to follow along.
