Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve dealt with mental illness for most of my life, but writing about those struggles helped me to understand how not alone I am.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I feel very lucky to have written 5 NYT bestselling books. I was afraid at first that my irreverent style of writing would throw people off, but what I’ve found is that I am far from the only rambling weirdo with a strange sense of humor. I’ve found that using humor to write about even the hardest subject is a good way to make scary subjects smaller. Lots of people find my work because they love my humor, but they stay for the harder topics…depression, anxiety, chronic illness.
What’s next?
I just finished book tour so right now I’m taking some time off to recuperate, and then I’ll start on my next book. I have several I’m working on. I never know which will see the light until I’m further in.
