Conversations with Cross Alfrido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cross Alfrido.

Hi Cross, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved washing cars as my parents would tell me as well as other people when I was younger. I would take my hot wheels and models car’s and clean them all the time, but when I got older my toys just got bigger. I started at Audi Dominion working for Mr. Cavender washing car’s after that I moved into the Detail department and I got hooked more I loved it. I learned how to take out gum stains from the seats to literally learning how to buff and wax a car. Then I went on to bigger and better things and getting picked up by Buff’s detail shop. Being able to work with two mentors of mine learning how to apply ceramic, as well as how to do a proper compound and polish and what type of products to use in certain situations to be able to tackle a job. I started doing it just for fun for family cars as well as friends. I wasn’t trying to make anything of it at the time until my wife told me and then my family and after that it was friends telling me to go for it. Now when you have multiple people telling you that you have a real gift for this it becomes more clear to you in your head that maybe this is what I should be doing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road at all. For some small businesses the growing pains are gonna be there. There is not always going to be great days where I would have a detail every single weekend. There is going to be days where the weather is bad or just plain old no one wanting a detail done. That’s okay, yes the clientele falls low, but I just keep pushing forward because not all small business will have successful days. Some days are hard and me reminding myself that those days will always be a breakthrough for better days ahead.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a jet engine mechanic on the weekdays and a professional detailer on the weekends. I specialize in enhancing a cars paint and rewinding the time of abuse and neglect on paint and interiors the best I can. I am known for working on the average Joe’s car. The kind of cars that people use in their day in day (commuter car) as well as trucks and the kid haulers etc. What I’m most proud of is how much people enjoy the work I do for them. To see the excitement on their face when they see their car again looking brand new that’s what I’m most proud of. I think that’s what sets me apart from others is that as much as I like to work on the exotic luxury cars I gravitate more to the daily drivers. I like to help the mom with three kids in a van or the construction worker who just wants a clean truck he can be proud of. My way of thinking is if I can make a person happy with my work I am doing something right, something I love and that’s what I am proud of.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I try to keep prices affordable for everyone and when I mean everyone I mean everyone. I want people to be confident that just cause the price is cheap doesn’t mean it’s bad quality. For me the way I see it is I’ve been doing this for years so it’s try to keep it fair for everyone who can’t afford a thousand dollar detail. I wanna continue to grow on those values I have for myself and my business. For me it’s about being affordable and having my customers believe that even though the price is cheap doesn’t mean the work is cheap.
