Today we’d like to introduce you to Gianella Feoli.
Hi Gianella, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has never followed a straight line, but it has always followed creativity, courage, and reinvention.
I never imagined that one day I would be making jewelry and accessories for women and girls. I had spent many years teaching languages, and at that time I knew nothing about jewelry, accessories, or fashion.
Previously, I had founded and run IDIOMAS GLOBALES for 11 years in Costa Rica, a language institute where I taught English, Spanish, French, and Italian to corporations and independent students of all ages and levels.
What happened next changed everything in my life. I fell in love, closed my language institute, married the man of my dreams, and moved to the United States. While waiting for my work permit, I tried to stay busy, but that transition period was emotionally challenging and uncertain.
One day, my husband noticed how restless I felt. He came home with many boxes of jewelry beads, tools, and organizers so I could have something creative to focus on. That simple gesture became the beginning of Gianella’s Creations -although at that time, I could never have imagined it would grow into a real entrepreneurship-.
We were living in a very small apartment in Chicago. So small, in fact, that our stackable washer and dryer were inside the master bedroom. I was working at our dining table, constantly setting up and packing everything away. I longed for a small, dedicated space of my own.
I remember visualizing a white table, a white chair, and a peaceful corner where I could create. One day, I walked into the walk-in closet and had an “aha” moment: “this could be my space”. It became both our closet and my creative office. We set it up with a white table we had in storage and two white chairs, simple but perfect for that moment in my life.
From there, I began learning on my own, and later took jewelry classes when we moved to South Bend, Indiana, then continued learning in Florida, and later in San Antonio, Texas, where we live today. I truly believe the learning never ends, it continues as long as I do.
At first, I only shared my pieces on Facebook, and people began complimenting my work and asking to buy them. But I wasn’t ready yet because I was searching for “perfection.” Looking back, I now see that was a mistake.
Eventually, I decided to take the leap, launched my website, and started selling. That was the real beginning of Gianella’s Creations as a business.
What began as a creative outlet has now grown into Gianella’s Creations, a handmade jewelry and lifestyle brand focused on small-batch, intentional designs for women and girls who want something different from mass-produced accessories. Each piece is created with individuality in mind, with many one-of-a-kind designs that reflect personal expression and story.
I first created only jewelry for women. Later, after participating in fairs, mothers started asking for pieces for their daughters. That feedback inspired me to expand into jewelry for girls as well.
In 2022, I had the opportunity to be featured in a curated space in San Antonio dedicated to handmade and artisan work. That experience encouraged me to expand my offerings and explore new creative directions beyond jewelry, including soaps, lanyards, belts, rosaries, wall hangers, and wine glass charms.
Today, I continue to grow Gianella’s Creations with the vision of expanding into new spaces, collaborating with local artisans, and seeing my work featured in boutique hotels and unique retail environments.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had to learn many things from an industry I knew nothing about, while also balancing two online businesses: Virtual Language Pros, where I teach languages, and Gianella’s Creations.
I had to teach myself how to set up websites on GoDaddy, as well as navigate social media platforms, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Google My Business, all without being very technical. At times, it felt overwhelming.
I have also made many mistakes along the way, such as purchasing supplies that were not what they claimed to be, and participating in fairs or artisan store opportunities that were not the right fit for my brand.
My first craft fair was chaos. We had recently moved to San Antonio and were still unpacking and organizing everything when I saw there was going to be a craft fair and decided I wanted to participate. I was not prepared at all. I only had a few jewelry displays, had no idea what type of fair it was – ideally, you should attend a fair first before signing up – and I suddenly had so many things to do before the event, which was just around the corner.
I had to order jewelry displays and a canopy – let’s remember this is Texas weather! -The day before the fair, I did not go to bed until 2 a.m. because I was still working on last-minute details. It took us forever to load everything into the car – a needle could not have fit inside on our way to the fair! – To make things even more stressful, we left late.
Since we had just moved to the city, we got lost on the way there. And because booth spots were first come, first served, we ended up with one of the worst locations. It was also the first time unpacking the canopy, and my husband had to figure out how to set it up correctly while I was trying to organize everything on the table. Everyone else at the fair was already set up while we were still unpacking boxes.
Fortunately, we finally finished setting everything up and were able to relax a little. My husband, who has a very outgoing personality, helped me sell a lot. At first, sales were slow, but during the last hour of the fair, I suddenly sold a lot of jewelry. What started as a very stressful experience ended up being completely worth it.
For the following fairs, things went much smoother. I had the right amount of jewelry displays and knew how to organize everything better – the setup, the unpacking, and even how to arrange things inside the trunk of the car -. I was finally able to go to bed early the night before a fair, and most importantly, I applied what I had learned from that first experience and corrected what did not work.
Every experience – from fairs, selling, promoting, innovating, and creating – has taught me something valuable. I am constantly learning, improving, and adjusting as I grow.
Above all, I would not be where I am today without God’s guidance and the unconditional support of my husband, Mike. I am also deeply grateful to every person who continues to support and believe in my work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is rooted in storytelling, creativity, and meaningful expression across two interconnected worlds: language education and jewelry design.
I am the creator of Gianella’s Creations, a jewelry brand that blends artistry with intention. Each piece is designed not only for beauty, but to reflect confidence, individuality, elegance, creativity, and joy. I see every necklace, bracelet, or accessory as a wearable story -something that can uplift a woman in a specific moment of her life or allow a young girl to express her imagination and personality in a fun and meaningful way-.
My creations are designed for women and girls who appreciate unique handcrafted pieces that reflect personality, emotion, and story in a world filled with mass-produced accessories.
Many of my collections are designed with versatility in mind, including reversible pendants and multi-use pieces such as belts that can also be worn as necklaces. I also create practical yet elegant accessories, like lanyards designed for professional women who want functionality without sacrificing style.
Sustainability is an important part of my process. I work intentionally, avoid mass production, and use eco-conscious materials whenever possible. Every piece is carefully tested for comfort, balance, and quality before it reaches a client.
Through my blog and written content, I extend my work beyond design and education by sharing motivational, empowering, and educational messages for women. For me, both language and jewelry are forms of expression -tools that help people connect, grow, and shine in their own way-.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
If I could describe myself in one word, it would be perseverance.
I have never been afraid to start from scratch, even without ideal resources or formal experience in a field. I tend to follow what I feel deeply connected to and trust the process of learning as I go.
Another surprising part of my life is that I am multilingual, which not only shapes my professional work but also influences how I connect with people and understand different cultures. Language has always been a bridge for me -both professionally and personally-.
Perhaps the most unexpected part of my story is that Gianella’s Creations began inside a walk-in closet, without experience in jewelry-making and without expectations -only curiosity and a desire to create something meaningful-. What started as a simple creative spark slowly evolved into a brand built on intention, storytelling, and emotion.
Sometimes the most meaningful paths begin in the most ordinary places and grow into something far greater than we could have planned.
