Today we’d like to introduce you to Josie Sokoloff.
Hi Josie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the Texas Hill Country and moved to San Antonio in 1999. That move is really where my journey in the wedding industry began. I started by selling wedding dresses, and one thing I heard over and over from brides was, “I wish you could be there on my wedding day.” I loved getting to know each bride, hearing their vision, and helping them navigate such an important time in their lives.
In 2004, I decided to turn that passion into a career. I enrolled in a professional training program through the Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants and earned my designation as a Professionally Trained Wedding Planner. In 2009, I completed my certification and became a Certified Wedding Planner.
Since then, I have owned and operated Tie the Knot Wedding and Event Planning, coordinating weddings and events across Texas and beyond, including San Antonio, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, Marble Falls, and even Atlanta. While I may not have coordinated hundreds of weddings like some planners, what I bring is a genuine love for people, strong organizational skills, and a talent for creating memorable celebrations.
After spending 13 years in San Antonio, my family and I moved back home to Fredericksburg. Returning to the Hill Country allowed me to reconnect with the community that shaped me. Today, my experience in weddings, events, customer service, and relationship building has led me to where I am now. Whether I’m coordinating a wedding, planning a community event, or supporting an organization behind the scenes, I enjoy bringing people together and helping create meaningful experiences.
At the heart of my story is a simple passion: serving others and helping make important moments a little more special.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been smooth sailing. One thing I learned very quickly in the wedding industry is that no matter how much you plan, something unexpected can happen.
Over the years, I’ve dealt with vendors getting sick and being unable to show up on a wedding day, last-minute changes, and plenty of situations that required quick problem-solving. One of my most memorable challenges was having to step in and make floral arrangements myself when things didn’t go according to plan. Trust me, flower design is not my specialty, but when you’re responsible for someone’s wedding day, you do whatever it takes to make sure the event is successful.
Beyond the day-of challenges, one of the biggest struggles has been building trust and helping clients understand the value of what a professional wedding planner brings to the table. Wedding planning is often something people don’t fully appreciate until they experience everything that goes into it. When clients trust the process and trust your expertise, planning tends to move much more smoothly. When there is doubt, it can slow things down because you’re constantly having to prove your value rather than focusing on creating the best possible event.
Those challenges have taught me to be adaptable, resourceful, and confident in my abilities. They have also reinforced the importance of communication, preparation, and always having a backup plan.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For more than 20 years, I have worked in the wedding and event industry, helping couples bring their vision to life while creating a planning experience that is organized, enjoyable, and as stress-free as possible. Through my business, Tie the Knot Wedding and Event Planning, I have coordinated weddings and events throughout Texas and beyond, including Fredericksburg, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Marble Falls, and Atlanta.
I specialize in wedding coordination, logistics, timelines, vendor management, and problem-solving. While beautiful details are important, my real strength is making sure all of the moving pieces come together seamlessly so couples and their families can enjoy the day without worrying about what is happening behind the scenes.
What I am most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. One of the greatest compliments I have received throughout my career is being invited back to coordinate multiple weddings within the same family. Over the years, I have had the privilege of coordinating weddings for brothers, sisters, cousins, in-laws, and even entire extended families. There is something incredibly special about being part of one wedding and then being asked to return years later for another family celebration. To me, that level of trust means more than any award or recognition.
I believe what sets me apart is my ability to stay calm under pressure, be honest with my clients, and adapt when things do not go as planned. After more than two decades in the industry, I know that every event will have unexpected challenges. Whether it is a vendor issue, a timeline change, or a last-minute emergency, I focus on finding solutions quickly and quietly so the couple never has to carry that stress.
I am known for treating every wedding as if it were my own family’s event. My clients know I will tell them what they need to hear, advocate for their best interests, and do everything possible to make their day successful. At the end of the day, my goal is not just to coordinate a wedding, but to create an experience that allows families to make memories they will cherish for a lifetime.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about Fredericksburg is the sense of community. It is a place where people genuinely care about one another, support local businesses, and come together to celebrate life’s important moments. I also love that Fredericksburg has managed to maintain its small-town charm while becoming a destination for visitors from all over the country. The beauty of the Hill Country, the history, and the welcoming atmosphere make it a special place to call home.
What I like least is the growing traffic and congestion that come with the city’s popularity. While tourism has brought many positive opportunities to the area, it can sometimes make it challenging to preserve the slower pace and close-knit feel that so many of us love. That said, growth is part of success, and I think our community continues to do a good job of balancing progress with preserving the character that makes Fredericksburg unique.
