Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Hitzfelder.
Rodney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The La Coste City Hotel opened in 1912 and operated as a hotel and bar for many decades. After sitting vacant for many years my son Andrew and I purchased the hotel to bring it back to life. After 2.5 years of construction, we opened as a venue space. Shortly after that we received our liquor license opening the bar. 6 months later the hotel rooms opened, 6 months after that we purchased Acadiana Cafe. 6 weeks ago we opened the expansion for cafe seating. We are proud and excited to bring great food, music and fun to our quiet little town. We are supported by our community and surrounding areas, we have a staff that works hard and we greatly appreciate it all.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were a lot of obstacles remodeling an 1912 building. Many of us that opened the business are new to the industry. Between google and seasoned bartenders we learned a lot. We have the support of Dave, the previous owner of Acadiana Cafe, which is a great help.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a retired SA fire chief
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up here, graduating from Medina Valley High School.
