Hi Jay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in the beauty industry began in India, where I first learned the art of eyebrow threading. From the beginning, I was drawn to how something as simple as shaping eyebrows could make someone feel more confident. It taught me patience, precision, and the importance of understanding each person’s natural features.
When I moved to San Antonio, it was a big life change. I was entering a new city, a different culture, and learning how to adapt to a completely new environment. There was also a language barrier, which made those first years challenging. Starting over in a new country meant I had to build everything from the ground up — not only professionally, but personally as well.
I worked at different salons after moving here, and that experience taught me a lot. It helped me understand the local community, what clients valued, and how important trust is in this industry. In the beginning, earning that trust was not easy. When clients don’t know you yet, it takes time for them to feel comfortable. I learned that listening carefully, being consistent, and treating every client with genuine care made all the difference.
Over time, clients started coming back. Then they began bringing family members and friends. That support meant a lot to me because it showed that the relationships I was building were real. It also gave me the confidence to think about creating something of my own.
That is what led me to open VN Brows. I wanted to create a space where people would feel comfortable the moment they walked in — a place where they felt heard, welcomed, and knew they were in good hands. My goal was never just to provide a service. I wanted clients to feel relaxed, trust the process, and leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.
Building my own business has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey. Moving to a new country, adjusting to a different culture, overcoming language barriers, and building trust client by client taught me resilience, patience, and confidence in myself.
Today, after more than 20 years in the beauty industry, I still love what I do. Every client who sits in my chair reminds me why I started — to create a place where people feel comfortable, cared for, and confident.

While my passion for the artistry of threading has been a constant for over two decades, the road to establishing VN Brows in San Antonio was certainly not without its bumps. The most significant struggle was the transition from being a dedicated technician to a multi-faceted business owner, a role that required me to ‘wear many hats’ simultaneously. In the early days, balancing high-quality services with the steep learning curve of daily operations, marketing, and management was a true test of my patience and consistency. It took time to build a reputation in a competitive market and convince clients to move away from their usual routines to trust my personalized, natural approach. However, navigating those industry shifts and operational challenges only strengthened my resolve. Today, I’m proud that those early struggles laid the foundation for the deep trust and loyalty our long-term clients place in us.
