Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Day.
Hi Christin , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve spent over two decades in the culinary world, working in fine dining kitchens and learning what it means to create something that feels both intentional and memorable. Over time, I found myself drawn less to the formality of traditional dining and more to the feeling—how people gather, connect, and experience a moment together.
Blue Thistle was born from that shift. I wanted to create something quieter, more personal—an experience rooted in ritual, simplicity, and care. What started as a tea bar has grown into something more expansive: a space for gathering, for slowing down, and for creating moments that feel meaningful without being overcomplicated.
Today, that looks like both our storefront in Fredericksburg and our off-site experiences, where we bring that same sense of intention directly to our guests. Everything we do is designed to feel effortless but considered—so people can step into a moment that feels both elevated and deeply human.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like a lot of small business owners, I’ve had to navigate everything from financial pressure to unexpected operational challenges—things like construction delays, equipment issues, and the day-to-day realities of running a physical space.
Beyond that, there’s the emotional side of building something so personal. You’re constantly balancing vision with reality, learning how to adapt without losing the heart of what you’re creating. There have been moments of doubt, especially when things don’t move as quickly as you hope or when you’re carrying the weight of it largely on your own.
But those challenges have also shaped the business into what it is now. They’ve forced me to get clear, to refine what actually matters, and to build something more intentional and resilient.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At its core, my work is about creating thoughtful, intentional gathering experiences. Through Blue Thistle, I offer both a tea bar and a series of curated, chef-led experiences—often brought directly to guests in private settings like Airbnbs or intimate events.
I specialize in blending the structure and refinement of fine dining with something softer and more approachable. Tea is a big part of that, but it’s really about the atmosphere as a whole—the pacing, the setting, the feeling of being cared for without it feeling formal or rigid.
What I’m most proud of is being able to create experiences that feel both elevated and deeply personal. Guests often leave feeling like they were part of something meaningful, not just served a meal or a drink.
What sets Blue Thistle apart is that it’s not built around volume or speed—it’s built around intention. Every detail is considered, but the goal is always to make it feel effortless. It’s hospitality that feels calm, grounded, and human.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People often see the finished experience and assume it comes together easily, but I’m actually someone who thinks through every detail very carefully. A lot of what I do is about creating something that feels effortless for the guest, even though there’s a lot of intention behind the scenes.
I think what might surprise people is how much of the brand is built around creating a sense of calm—not just for guests, but for myself as well. It’s as much a personal practice as it is a business.
