Exploring Life & Business with Alex Gold of Elm Pass Woods Wedding Festival and Event Venue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Gold.

Hi Alex, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to UT Austin, Mike went to A&M – we met a crossfit a few years after graduation, got engaged in 2018 – and decided to buy a place together out of the city and get married on our own land. I discovered the idea of a wedding festival and never looked back. Mike and I didn’t originally plan to start a wedding venue—we were simply drawn to a beautiful piece of land in the Texas Hill Country and wanted to create something meaningful for ourselves. We ended up getting married there first, and that experience completely changed how we saw the property.

After our wedding, we realized it had the potential to become something more—a place where other couples could have that same kind of intentional, nature-filled experience. From there, we built Elm Pass Woods into a wedding venue designed to feel elevated but still connected to the landscape, with a focus on making the day seamless for both couples and vendors.

What started as our own wedding location has grown into a full wedding and event venue, and we get to do what I can “joy touristing” on the happiest day of people’s lives.

At its core, Elm Pass Woods is about creating a space that feels personal, beautiful, and genuinely memorable for every couple who celebrates there.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
well we opened up in Jan 2020, just before the pandemic. so we had to get by the first year with only a few micro weddings.

we live in the hill country which is a deeply conservative place, but we feel strongly that the hill country is for everyone – and we’ve created a space where all are welcomed.

my dad was a huge part of EPW, helping with everything from accounting to groundskeeping, but he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Feb 2022, and died 6 weeks later. it’s been harder without him, but he’s a huge part of this place and its legacy.

also in 2025 we had a giant hail storm across the hill country – and it destroyed our original canvas tipi tents days before we had to kick off the spring season. we had to patch them up to finish out the spring season and then quickly pivot to new wooden tipis that we didn’t have to worry about weather with – and now that we have them we love the vibe even more!! they are still whimsical and truly one of a kind.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Elm Pass Woods Wedding Festival and Event Venue?
Elm Pass Woods is a Texas Hill Country wedding venue designed for couples who want an outdoor wedding that feels both elevated and natural. We specialize in creating a seamless, full-property experience—where the setting, layout, and flow of the day are all intentionally designed to make things easier for both couples and vendors.

What we’re most known for is the balance we’ve created between a refined wedding experience and the raw beauty of the land. The venue is surrounded by mature oak trees and open space, which gives couples a private, immersive setting without needing excessive décor. It photographs beautifully in every season, which has made it especially appealing for couples who want a timeless, nature-forward wedding aesthetic.

We’re also known for offering a massive, curated décor inventory that our couples can use at no additional cost, which allows them to create a personalized, high-end look without the added expense or stress of sourcing everything themselves. Another signature part of the experience is our ridge hike—an optional moment built into the wedding day where couples can step away on a short hike, take in the views, and capture portraits that feel like an intimate adventure elopement, all while still celebrating alongside their family and friends.

What sets us apart is how much thought we’ve put into the logistics behind the scenes. From the ceremony and reception flow to vendor accessibility and guest comfort, everything is designed to feel effortless on the wedding day. We’ve built the venue not just to look good, but to function well—because we know that’s what ultimately creates a better experience. Our commitment to pricing transparency also sets us apart from most venues in the industry.

Brand-wise, we’re most proud of creating something that feels intentional and consistent—from the physical space to the way we communicate and market the venue. Elm Pass Woods has become more than just a place to host weddings; it’s a brand that reflects a specific style, pace, and experience that couples are actively searching for.

At the end of the day, what we want people to know is that Elm Pass Woods is designed to be both beautiful and functional—a place where couples can feel fully present, and where every detail works together to support that experience.

How do you define success?
For me, success has evolved over time. In the beginning, it looked like bookings and growth—proving that what we were building at Elm Pass Woods could actually work.

Today, I define success as creating a business that runs well without constant chaos, where our couples have an incredible experience, our vendors enjoy working on the property, and we still have the space to be present in our own lives and with our family which includes three small kids.
