Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Sloan.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been creative! Even as a young girl, I would paint, photograph, and beautify anything I could get my hands on. I LOVE pictures and my home houses shoe box after shoe box of images of my family and multiple generations. I believe in the power of printed images!
When I had my own kids, I played around a bit with photography but I had my hands quite full raising them. Once my boys started school full time, I was able to slowly give more of my time to my business. I remained part-time for several years till 2020.
In March of 2020 I took the leap and haven’t looked back since. Working full time boosting the confidence of women is one of the most fulling things in my life! It fills my soul in a way that no other “desk job” ever could!
I absolutely love what I do because it’s so much more than taking photos… I get to help women see themselves the way the rest of the world already sees them — beautiful, powerful, and worthy. Watching these ladies walk into their session feeling nervous and leave feeling confident, radiant, and comfortable in their own skin is the MOST rewarding part of my job. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful and sexy in her skin.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If I am being completely honest… my single, most difficult hurdle has been… myself. Not believing in myself has cost me a lot of wasted time and unneeded heartache.
Literally years! I am a perfectionist through and through, and while that *can serve me well in my career, it can also be a downfall and cause major analysis paralysis and prevent me from moving forward. I try to live by the phrase “Done is better than perfect”.
And ironically, it’s something that I try to encourage my clients about too… it all starts in the mind. We believe what we tells ourselves and eventually live that out in our lives. So start telling yourself you’re the sh*t! <3
We’ve been impressed with Boudoir By Samantha , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a boudoir photography studio in downtown San Antonio that’s dedicated to helping women see themselves in a completely new light. My sessions are designed to be a full day, luxury experience — not just a photoshoot. We offer professional hair and makeup, a full client closet with luxury brands, a complimentary lunch, same day viewing appointment, and virtual styling assistance, along with pro editing of images and tons of prep guides to help them get ready for their day!
This experience is about transformation — about showing you the version of yourself that the world already sees but you may have forgotten. My work celebrates every stage of womanhood, every body at every age! You’ll leave not only with stunning, intimate portraits, but with a renewed sense of confidence and a deeper appreciation for who and where you are in your journey of life.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My best advice for minding a mentor is to do your homework! I’ve been in the industry long enough and have seen a lot of crummy people come and go for not being honest about their skillset. It’s very hard to find genuine people with integrity who want you to WIN but once you find them they can be such. huge asset to your business.
