Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Liggett.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
“My husband Jim and I have been in the adventure industry for nearly four decades. It all started back in the 1980s when Jim worked summers at camps in Michigan and began building ropes courses, zip lines, and climbing walls on the side. The demand grew quickly, so in 1989 he founded RCI Adventure Products (originally Ropes Courses, Inc.) in Allegan, Michigan. Over the years, we grew RCI into the world’s leading manufacturer of innovative aerial adventure attractions—like our signature Sky Trail® high ropes courses, Sky Rail® zip rails, Sky Tykes® for little ones, and Clip ‘n Climb® walls. We’ve installed thousands of these experiences at camps, parks, malls, and attractions around the globe.
After spending years designing and building these products for other operators, we decided it was time to operate our own venues and showcase what great adventure looks like from the guest’s perspective. That’s how LiggettVille Adventure Centers were born. We opened our first locations to create safe, fun, accessible indoor adventures that bring families, friends, and groups together—especially in retail and urban settings where people don’t always expect to find heart-pumping fun.
Today, we’re proud to have LiggettVille locations in places like San Antonio’s Shops at Rivercenter (right on the River Walk), where guests of all ages can challenge themselves on our bi-level Sky Trail with Sky Rail zip rails, tackle the colorful Clip ‘n Climb walls, or let the little ones enjoy the ground-level Sky Tykes course. It’s incredibly rewarding to see families making memories and pushing their limits just steps from the Alamo and downtown attractions.
We still run RCI Adventure Products out of Michigan, which allows us to bring the very best, safety-certified equipment and design expertise directly into our LiggettVille centers. It’s been an amazing full-circle journey—from building the equipment that powers adventures worldwide to creating welcoming destinations where people can experience that thrill firsthand.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When we decided to launch LiggettVille Adventure Centers so we could operate our own venues and truly understand the guest experience, we faced a whole new set of hurdles: finding the right retail and urban locations, navigating mall leasing and construction timelines, training staff to deliver consistent safety and fun, and building awareness in markets where people didn’t expect to find heart-pumping indoor adventures right next to shopping and dining. The San Antonio location at the Shops at Rivercenter, for example, involved adapting our designs to a multi-level mall space while making sure it felt welcoming for families visiting the River Walk and Alamo.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
LiggettVille Adventure Center at the Shops at Rivercenter offers safe, indoor aerial adventures for all ages right in the heart of San Antonio. Guests tackle our bi-level Sky Trail® high ropes course with integrated Sky Rail® zip rails (up to 35 feet high—the tallest indoor course in Texas), the kid-friendly Sky Tykes® course, and colorful Clip ‘n Climb® walls. We specialize in family fun, birthday parties, field trips, and team-building that builds confidence and creates memories.
What sets us apart is that we’re backed by RCI Adventure Products, the company we founded decades ago and the world leader in designing and manufacturing these attractions. Because we build the equipment ourselves, we deliver superior quality, safety, and innovation you won’t find elsewhere. We’re most proud of turning our manufacturing expertise into real-world guest experiences that make adventure accessible and joyful for everyone visiting the River Walk area. It’s the perfect active, indoor complement to San Antonio’s attractions!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely—our POS software and AI tools are indispensable for tracking KPIs and making fast, data-driven decisions at LiggettVille. We also rely on Google Workspace for team collaboration and Smartsheets for keeping projects organized. For inspiration, I’ve enjoyed the book Thanks for Coming in Today by Charles Ryan Minton on building great teams. On the personal side, outdoor adventure podcasts and simple daily walks help me stay energized and creative. These resources together help us deliver the best possible experiences on our Sky Trail, Sky Rail, and Clip ‘n Climb attractions while keeping life balanced.”
