Rising Stars: Meet Dennis Moore of Blanco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Moore.

Dennis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Buggy Barn Museum was started by my love for authentic western carriages, buggies and wagons. This love started when I was just a young boy as I dreamed of the old west. Over the past few years, that dream turned into a reality. My passion for preserving our western heritage led to establishing the Buggy Barn Museum in 2011. With the collection starting with only about 20 carriages, it has now grown close to 300 carriages and wagons making it the largest collection in Texas. My wife and I own the museum, and my daughter is the manager and coordinator. We also built an old west town right behind the museum called Pine Moore Old West Studio, that is a fully functional old west town. You can rent it for filming, commercials, weddings, corporate events, etc.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As all journeys, this one too has seen it’s bumps along the way; however, we have never lost our faith that another door will open for us to continue on the journey. One of the struggles we have had, like many people is finances. It takes a lot of money to build what we have created here, and so we have had to build what we can as we had the funds to do so. However, we never lost hope or faith that we would be able to keep going, and we have been blessed to do so.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With having these buggies and wagons, it has opened many doors for working in the movie business. I have been blessed to be a wagon master and wrangler in many movie productions, and provide several buggies, wagons and horses for the movies as well.
I am known for having the largest collection here in Texas, so when productions are needing wagons, they will contact me or come scout them for their movie. My daughter, Amanda, and I have been blessed to work together on most productions, and I think that sets us apart as well – having a father-daughter duo, we work well together, so that makes it special in it’s own way that we work together at the museum and on movie productions.
I think the thing that makes me most proud is to be able to do this with my family; my son has also helped, my grandchildren have been in a couple movies as well, and also to see the joy in everyone’s face from all over the world when they come to the museum. It is truly priceless.

How do you define success?
Success…I would say having the job you dreamed about and being able to go to work every day at that job. Also seeing how much the people can enjoy what you have created; that is true success.
