Today we’d like to introduce you to Pedro Lujan.
Hi Pedro, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been surrounded by dogs. I grew up on the edge of town, which unfortunately meant a lot of strays or abandoned dogs showed up at our door step. Okay, most of them I walked home, against my mothers wishes. I was that kid that wandered down the dirt alone, but would often come back with a new pet. A few dogs we had to nurture back to health and others we had to work with animal control to subdue. Most of them stayed with us and lived out their lives as part of our mixed match pack.
My first break into the dog industry on a professional level was with a national franchise in Austin. They specialized in behavior modification, taking not he hardest cases. Their approach to training changed the game and landed them in the attention of the media, landing on a few talk shows. I worked with them from 2017 until Covid put everyone and everything to a standstill.
I moved back to New Braunfels during this time. Helping my partner with his cleaning business, which to our luck, was covid proof. I did this for about two years, until we got the social distancing lifted. That’s when I decided to start Wag-A-Holics.
My mission for Wag-A-Holics was to offer Dog Boarding for dogs that have a hard time being placed with traditional facilities. It didn’t take long until I was asked to help train these dogs. Of course I did. Then word of mouth got me from working out of my home to moving into my first facility before the year was up. It took only one year before I out grew that facility and had to move to a larger place. Four years later, we are now settled into a 4,300 sqft facility with a fenced in yard, 6 employees and a separate grooming store front.
Our mission remains the same to offer Boarding, Training, and Grooming for dogs that have a hard time being accepted at tradiontal facilities. Our staff is crossed trained to handle the workload. We’ve created a community for our clients and their pets here at Wag-A-Holics.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a relatively smooth road. The biggest hurdles have been getting over my own fears. Not feeling prepared or ready to take certain steps. But the support of my partner, family and friends have been immeasurable. There is only so much that preparation can achieve, the rest is a leap of faith.
We’ve been impressed with Wag-A-Holics Dog Training, Boarding and Grooming, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wag-A-Holics Dog Training, Boarding and Grooming is one stop shop for all of your dogs needs. We created a community for our clients dogs.
We specialize in working with dogs that have a hard time being placed with traditional facilities based on behavior like reactivity, aggression, and anxiety. The dogs become comfortable with all of our handlers and groomers helping to alleviate the stress they have returning for future services. In addition, we offer bi-monthly group classes and exclusive Doggy daycare for our clients dogs that need continued support in their training goals.
What matters most to you?
Trust. Trust is the foundation of every relationship. That goes for human and dog. We are proud and honored to have earned the trust of all of our clients and their dogs.
