Inspiring Conversations with Teresa Garcia of Texas Food Safety Solutions Inc., dba Food Safety Direct

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Garcia.

Hi Teresa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working in the Food Industry since I was 16 years old, I worked my way up from being a dishwasher to Management, all while I was still in high school. After various moves with my family, I got a job at a major healthcare system in San Antonio and remained there for 20 years, here is where I met my current husband. After realizing that if I was to improve my quality of life and that of my two children, I had to break free of the constraints that wouldn’t allow me to put my training skills to work, so I resigned my position, set most of my fears of starting over aside and started Food Safety Direct. I knew that business ownership would not be easy, however, in a series of ups and downs, and learning hard lessons, I continue to persevere while keeping my passion alive while providing the Food Industry Management and staff with the Food Safety Certifications required by The State and Local Health Departments. My team and I take pride in our training program, which is highly customized to the need of particular size of the food facilities, of course keeping in mind cultural diversity and the time constraints faced by food facilities of all sizes.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
1. Not being able to compete with the large companies who can spend a lot of money in advertising
2. lack of funding for growth

We’ve been impressed with Texas Food Safety Solutions Inc., dba Food Safety Direct, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Food Safety Direct has been serving the Food Industry for 25 years, providing the ServSafe Food Safety Manager Certification (A national standards following the latest food code). We also developed our own in house Texas Food Handler Certification. Both programs are offered in person, with Online TX Food Handler option available 24/7 form home or office. There is also an Online Food Manager exam option with independent study.
We specialized in Food Safety emergency certifications. We can be reached everyday up until 7pm by phone or text, if a customer needs a certificate right away, we work with their time to accommodate.
We provide all the classes in English or Spanish, at our classroom, or we will go to the facilities for their group of 10 or more.
Virtual group Food Handler classes are also available to be booked by management.
We are prepared to help Food Industry Owners, Managers and Employees to overcome obstacles preventing them from getting their required certifications.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Our City is full of opportunities, culture, and great people.
What I like least about our city is all the traffic, the lack of access to safe parking facilities downtown, which makes it difficult to attend business events.
