Life & Work with Katrina Stacy of New Braunfels, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Stacy.

Hi Katrina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My floral preservation journey began pretty unexpectedly. When my best friend got married, I tucked a few blooms from her bouquet and put them into a tiny keepsake frame. I had no idea what I was doing — only a handful of flowers survived that first press — but even with imperfect results, something in me lit up. What began as a simple, heartfelt gift quietly grew into a passion I couldn’t ignore.
From there, everything unfolded naturally. I fell in love with the idea of turning someone’s meaningful flowers into something they could hold onto forever, and it felt like God’s hand was on it. For a season, I pressed flowers in the evenings after long days at my job as an administrator at a chiropractic office. But as more brides and families began trusting me with their flowers — and with a lot of prayer and the unwavering support of my husband — I eventually took the leap and stepped into floral preservation full-time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road — but it’s been such a fun one. In the beginning, everything was pure trial and error. Flowers molded in the press, petals browned, and whole batches refused to cooperate. A few years ago, there weren’t many resources out there, so I learned the old-fashioned way: library books, experimenting, and figuring out which methods worked for which blooms.

Looking back, I’m very grateful for those messy early days — they taught me patience, resilience, and helped me shape a style that feels uniquely mine. Every bouquet taught me something new, and those “fails” ended up being some of my best teachers.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Kat’s Flowers, I specialize in creating pressed-floral artwork and custom keepsakes. I preserve flowers from weddings, memorials, anniversaries, and more — turning them into handcrafted frames, mustard-seed jewelry, and other heartfelt heirlooms.

What I’m most proud of are the memorial pieces I make for families who are grieving, and the baby’s-breath jewelry I create for women who have experienced miscarriage. Those pieces require so much tenderness, and it’s an honor every time someone trusts me with flowers that hold such deep significance. Being able to give a family something meaningful to remember their loved one by is truly the most important and rewarding part of what I do.

What sets my work apart is that my faith is truly at the center of it. It shapes the way I care for each bouquet and the way I think about the families that they belong to. I try to pray over each piece before it goes to its forever home — not for it to be just another pretty item, but something that brings a sense of peace and comfort to the people receiving it.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance has been a big part of my journey. Floral preservation involves a lot of trial and error, and it takes patience to learn how each flower needs to be handled. Being willing to keep learning — even when things don’t go as planned — has made all the difference. Every bloom is unique, and taking the time to treat each one with care is a big reason my clients trust my work.
