Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Janshen.
Hi Ben, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started screen printing as a side hustle with a friend in Big Spring, TX while I was working, going to school and playing football. Ended up working for a shop there for a few years that did a little bit of everything printing wise. An opportunity came up to get into a building downtown Corpus Christi so I decided to be done with football, along with seasonal, resort work in the Grand Tetons and sink everything into starting my own screen printing and embroidery business. Ive been working for myself since, going on 10 years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think anyone that owns their own business knows its a bumpy road. Many struggles along the way, most significantly being: evacuating and temporarily opperating out of Big Spring during hurricane Katrina, an initial huge financial blow and adjusting to COVID, moving and adjusting to operate out of 5 different locations in 9 years (6 if you count the few months in Big Spring) As well as various but significant physical injuries from football and skateboarding and continuing to work with them.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run a printing business. The biggest volume of items I put out are screen printed but we also do alot of: embroidery, sublimation, direct to film, vinyl and graphic design. I meet deadlines and keep prices low. Im proud of repeat business and when a customer tells me that the print or logo on their shirt last longer than the shirt itself.
What are your plans for the future?
Continue to offer more and new products and services, creating more sources of income for a platform that I have worked endlessly to create. I think my next, most immediate move is going to be to re-introduce printed skate decks and board printing. Keeping a stock of blanks to have available for custom printed orders, while also offering the printing service for anyone providing their own boards.
