Exploring Life & Business with Brandy Head of Head Over Heart Counseling, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Head.

Hi Brandy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2011, I was working as a cook at Burger King in the Mississippi Delta—grateful for a job, yet deeply aware that I wanted more for my life. I knew I needed an education and a meaningful career, but I wasn’t sure where to begin. Around that time, a friend who worked in substance abuse recovery mentioned that her field had changed her life. When I told her I was interested in that kind of work, she said, “Then you need to become a social worker.” That simple piece of advice set my life on an entirely new trajectory.

I returned to school, balancing classes with work, and step by step completed my Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees in Social Work by 2016. My passion for helping others—especially those facing life’s most difficult moments—only grew stronger through each stage of my education.

I began my professional career in 2013 as a nursing home social worker, a role that taught me the heart of human connection, resilience, and dignity in aging. For eight years, I walked alongside residents and families navigating loss, change, and end-of-life care. Those experiences profoundly shaped my perspective as a clinician and as a person.

In 2021, after years of growing burnout and reflection during the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to take a leap of faith. I left my position and founded Head Over Heart Counseling, transitioning into full-time private practice. What started as a risk quickly became a calling. Through virtual therapy, I’ve had the privilege of serving clients across five states, helping them find healing and clarity in the midst of uncertainty.

Earlier this year, I expanded that vision by launching Passport To Self, a space designed to support other therapists and healers through consultation and professional retreats. My goal is to nurture those who dedicate their lives to nurturing others—to help them reconnect with purpose, balance, and joy in their work.

The journey from a fast-food kitchen in the Mississippi Delta to leading a multi-state therapy practice and retreat organization has been filled with both deep personal losses and incredible professional blessings. Standing in that kitchen in 2011, I could never have imagined the richness, purpose, and fulfillment my life would hold today.

Every step has been a lesson in courage, compassion, and the transformative power of choosing growth over comfort. And I remain profoundly grateful—for the people who guided me, the clients who trusted me, and the chance to live a life that is truly head over heart.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2019, I lost my 18 year old son. The following year, I witnessed Covid take more lives than I could count. Working in healthcare, during Covid -19, having a child at home with compromised immunity, and trying do my best when every day brought new guidelines, I began to crack.

As you know, we’re big fans of Head Over Heart Counseling, PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My practice sees clients 5-6 days a week across multiple time zones. I work with adults suffering from depression, anxiety, grief, and chronic illness. I show up for my clients in a real and sometimes raw way. I am the kind of therapist that I want to work with. I practice evidenced based practical therapeutic modalities. If you want to change your physical health, you hire a trainer. If you want to change your mental health, you hire a guide (therapist). I join folks where they are and walk along side them through life.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love traveling, gardening, and my furbabies. I have house rabbits and Mr. Monkey occasionally shows up in session.
