Inspiring Conversations with Araceli of First Command

Today we’d like to introduce you to Araceli.

Hi Araceli, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a native of San Antonio, growing up on the city’s Southeast Side, I’m proud to be a Highland Owl. I earned my Business Degree from the University of the Incarnate Word. My favorite pastime is spending quality time with my family and our two dogs.

I didn’t grow up with much knowledge of financial literacy or how money can be a tool to protect my family and plan for the future.

Too often, I see families relying on platforms like GoFundMe during times of need. If tragedy strikes, the last thing anyone should be worrying about is money.

My very first job was at Bill Miller’s—Store No. 1! Once I started earning a paycheck, all I knew was to spend it until the next one came. This cycle is where many people get stuck.

When I became independent and married, I developed a genuine interest in learning how money works and how to make our dollars stretch further. It was around this time that my husband and I began working with a financial advisor to create our own financial plan.

It just made sense. We seek professionals for healthcare, vehicle maintenance, and more—so why should managing money be any different?

Today, I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to help others create financial plans. I meet with clients to understand what’s most important to them in their pursuit of financial security, and work with them to achieve their financial goals.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the years, I’ve faced many challenges. From starting my business in the height of COVID in March 2020 to trying to find a healthy balance between family and work, each season has tested my strength in different ways. Some of the hardest moments came from dealing with illness within our home — my son began having seizures before his second birthday, my daughter was diagnosed with asthma at five, my mother was hospitalized in 2022, and I’ve faced my own struggles with illness since beginning my career.

Through all of this, I’ve learned that money doesn’t protect you from life’s difficulties, but it can give you the space to focus on what truly matters — in my case, healing and caring for the people I love most.

As you know, we’re big fans of First Command. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I honestly believe financial literacy is one of the most underrated forms of self-care. That’s why I love hosting workshops and showing up at community events—to connect, share ideas, and help people feel more confident about their money.

I’m passionate about helping my clients make smart, informed financial decisions that support their goals and peace of mind. My approach is all about the basics that really work: managing debt responsibly, saving and investing with discipline, and building an insurance plan that protects what matters most.

As an Investment Advisor Representative, I’m held to a fiduciary standard—meaning I’m committed to always putting my clients’ best interests first.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
My birthday falls on Christmas Day, and over the years I’ve come to truly appreciate it. I believe it’s one of the rarest and most special birthdays of all, a reminder to celebrate both life and gratitude at the same time.
