Inspiring Conversations with Dariene Tovar of The Beauty Dwelling LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dariene Tovar.

Hi Dariene, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working at H-E-B in 2021. Originally being hired on as a cashier, i quickly moved my way into different departments including beauty. My love for the beauty department lead me to move from my smaller department to a much larger one. I got hired on, as a beauty advisor, amongst a team of over 10 different partners. I was eventually promoted the Lead Beauty Advisor. I was surrounded by so many beauty professionals during my time in beauty. These women were so talented, passionate, and knowledgeable. A coworker of mine and I quickly grew a friendship that would lead us to lifelong friendship. I watched her work full time and pursue her passion of being a licensed nail tech. I was inspired and knew I wanted something like that for myself.
I’ve always known that i wanted to help people. I loved to create beauty routines and skin care regimens with products sold at H-E-B. I decided to take it a step further and I started esthetics school in November 2022. I day dreamed of the cutest little spa that would create a loving space for everyone that entered. While going to esthetics school, I was also discovering my love for yoga.
Yoga was something I’d always wanted to try. I was overweight at the time, and was suffering with undiagnosed medical issues. Working out was a struggle for me and it trashed my mental health. I booked my first yoga class at Black Swan Yoga San Antonio and the rest is history. I’ve been doing yoga for 3 years. My passion for the practice has taken me to places I never imagined. I became a certified yoga teacher March 2025. Since graduation, I have become a trauma informed yoga teacher, and I have started teaching.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road. I’ve learned my biggest lessons & faced my biggest obstacles. While going to esthetics school, my last living grandparent passed away and I was also planning my wedding. If you’ve planned a wedding, you understand. The process of wedding and grief brought me to a very dark and sad place. I lived and sat with it for months. Anxiety overcame me without realizing. I started therapy and decided to take care of my mental health. Yoga played a really big part in helping my healing process.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Beauty Dwelling is a safe place for all. This cutie micro spa is LGBTQIA+ and woman owned. I strive on creating a space that is inclusive for all those who want to explore what beauty means to them. I specialize in custom facials, body waxing, and lash lifts. I enjoy incorporating my knowledge of yoga, breath work, and meditation into each of my services. I use these techniques to help create a relaxing and comfortable experience. I am most proud of how far The Dwelling has come already. The spa has been open since April and I love how much it has grown.
I want readers to know, that so much love and thought goes into everything we do at The Beauty Dwelling. This is just the beginning for us. I’m excited for the future plans of the spa. Yoga offerings and an expanding service menu is to come.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I loved growing up at my grandma’s house. She had the most beautiful clothes and shoes. She had a beautiful vanity with all her makeup. My cousin and I would play salon and take turns doing our nails. Living at my grandma’s house is nothing but favorite memories.
