Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberto Amaya.
Hi Alberto, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Alberto and Wendy worked in restaurants in their younger years, and opened up a fine dining establishment in Vacaville California called Alberto‘s Restaurant and Lounge which they owned for about 12 years.
When moving to Texas, Alberto being from El Salvador, was craving to open a Central American restaurant. Casa Amaya was next to Mary’s tacos in Boerne for almost 4 years, and then moved to the building that it is in now.
The Salvadoran Pupusas are the highlight of our menu, with the Honduran Fried Chicken, Garnachas and 27 types of street tacos as some other favorites. Our kitchen staff flavors everything like they did in their home countries, so you are in for a real treat!
Alberto loves pizza, so had a pizza oven installed close to a year ago. Along with your favorites, he has a Carnitas pizza a Picadillo pizza and a wonderful Garlic Shrimp pizza plus always has specials. He uses the 00 flour and yeast imported from Italy so it’s a tremendously fantastic crust.
He is here most of the time greeting everyone and making sure you are enjoying your meal. His wife Wendy makes the Piña Colada carrot cake, Salvadoran quesadilla and a few special desserts now and then.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting all the kitchen equipment installed with the permits and approvals from the health department, figuring out the best way to set everything up and trying to buy furniture right after Covid was quite an ordeal! Thank goodness we had all the contacts for the specialty food items we needed, and the beverages already! Rents, permits, beef & pork prices, eggs & food in general has gone up over the 4 years we have been here, but we try to keep menu prices as reasonable as we can here in Boerne.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Keeping the recipes authentic, decorating with pictures and things from Central America, having really good strong, regular coffee, heating your half-and-half, so it’s almost like having a latte just for a regular coffee, giving you the choice of having unique and wonderful pizza, kitchen staff that is proud of the food they make for you, smiling helpful hospitable staff, having the owners greet you…. all makes us happy to be here serving you.
