Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Rosas, MBA.
Hi Johanna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Johanna Rosas, I was born and raised in Seguin, TX. I am a middle child, the only girl, and was fortunate to be born an Aries — the first sign of the zodiac. In true Aries form, I was born with a God given gift of confidence, energy, and a competitive spirit. The competitive spirit however, I am still unsure if that is the Aries in me or if it comes from my growing up the only girl. Having two brothers, 1 older, 1 younger, I had to learn quickly how to keep up and catch up. Definitely with my older brother I quickly learned how to be competitive, not hesitant to make decisions ‘cause as a child riding bikes or running through the backyard sometimes my life depended on it! Hahaha In addition, I also learned to take initiative, and how I naturally inspire others to get moving.
My mom would say (with love) that I’m hard-headed — and she’s not wrong. Any time I start a new role, she checks in about six months later to ask, “Baby, are you bored yet?” because she knows once I dive in, I’ll absorb and learn as much as I can as quickly as I can. Over time, I have had to learn to harness that drive and use it for good throughout business, in leadership, and in service to others.
I come from a family that has never shied away from hard work and never hesitated to push us to do better, be better, and do it with kindness for ourselves and others. Both my parents taught us compassion, integrity, and perseverance. And my father has always said to us, “Look out for #1.” Not in a self-centered way, but as a reminder to think for ourselves, not follow the crowd, and avoid the mistakes of others.
My family’s story is one of grit and service — from relatives who once worked the cotton fields at young ages and later used the skills they gained to become machinists in manufacturing and auto mechanics, to educators who taught bilingual children when no one else would, librarians who served our community while brightening people’s days, superintendents who shaped our South Texas schools, a detective who caught the bad guys, a postal worker who showed up through rain or shine, and a banker who had keys to the vault, both literally and figuratively, unlocking her gift for helping others build stability with compassion and understanding.
Even more importantly, I come from a proud line of military veterans who fought for the freedoms we all enjoy — and who never forget the veterans left behind.
That foundation of purpose and perseverance shaped everything I do. Over time, through much trial and error; Professionally, I built a career in finance and project management. I have managed —million-dollar initiatives, audited process improvements where I developed a deep respect for structure, clarity, and process. And with a brief background in forensic accounting and more so in business finance, I learned to see the stories numbers tell — the risks, the trends, and the opportunities that can be hidden in plain sight.
I hold both a bachelor’s in finance and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University–San Antonio. I was here that gave me a strong foundation in how businesses operate, and many of the challenges they face — from budgeting and forecasting to compliance, risk management, process improvement, the importance of SOPs, and change management.
Bookkeeping combined everything I loved — structure, strategy, and helping people bring order to what once felt overwhelming.
Beyond the corporate world, I’ve always believed in servant leadership. I’ve worked in the nonprofit space supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, and I created and led a Financial Skills Program for at-risk youth aging out of the Texas Juvenile Justice system — because who else was going to help them learn how to budget? How would they stay off the streets? How would they not fall back into what they saw growing up with the struggles their families faces without the skills to plan, and believe in their own potential? I believe many of these experiences and the youth I helped reshaped my heart as much as my career.
Eventually, I realized I wanted to use what I have learned through life experience, and through the skills I had to make a more personal impact — helping business owners, gain clarity and confidence with their finances. That’s when Rosas Bookkeeping Group was born.
Today, my passion is to help other entrepreneurs and business owners to simplify their books, discover opportunities. I want to help them make truly informed decisions from the stories their numbers tell that support real growth. My mission is simple: to turn financial chaos into clarity — so business owners can focus on what truly matters — growing their business.
Hard work runs in my blood, while clarity and compassion guide my business. I am proud to carry my family’s legacy forward with the same faith-first work ethic, grit, integrity, and heart- felt compassion by helping others turn uncertainty into stability and chaos into clarity. Because when their business thrives, so does mine.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In building my business to conception there have definitely been obstacles and challenges along the way. It has been anything but a smooth road. In transitioning from corporate life into entrepreneurship, it has been both exciting in building something of my own and humbling when having to learn skills that I never thought I wanted from scratch. I have had to wear many hats while juggling. Some of the very few hats I wear (some all at the same time) range from: strategic leader, salesperson, worker bee, CEO, marketing director, operations director and back-office clerk, janitorial services, client relations, bookkeeper (yes, even for my own business!), and lead bookkeeping strategist just to mention a few. One of the biggest challenges I have faced and continue to face is knowing when to hire someone to do the tasks I can learn and do myself. I am a doer! Learning to let go has not come easy. I have had to learn to balance my time and prioritize. This means handing off tasks so that my time, energy, and skillset can be refocused, and better utilized elsewhere.
There have been planned financial sacrifices, very long hours, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. However, every challenge has taught me something about balance, letting go, and has humbled me in many ways. In addition, I have learned to ask for help when I need it. No matter much I want to resist, I have learned to reach out for and to my support system when I need the extra vote of confidence.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
(most of this comes from my website: https://www.rosasbookkeepinggroup.com/)
What You Should Know
I built Rosas Bookkeeping Group out of a drive for change. My mission is simple — to help business owners Stay organized and save at minimum 120 hours a year by simplifying their bookkeeping. I will help business owners simplify their books, save time, and gain confidence in their numbers. My firm is built on the same faith-first work ethic, grit, and compassion with which I was raised. Whether the economy is thriving or in a downhill slide, whether we’re in the middle of a pandemic, or resurfacing from it, whether you’re a new business just getting started or a business that’s been around for years, there is always a need for a bookkeeper. A few of the hats I wear are reflective of the hats entrepreneurs and business owners wear. So, if I can take on their books, they focus on what matters most, building their business.
What I Do / What I Specialize In / What I’m Known For
I specialize in and have a passion for bookkeeping clean-up or catch-up projects and for creating financial reports. Services I provide are: Ongoing monthly bookkeeping, financial reporting, QuickBooks Online setup, inventory, payroll, light support, and training.
I would like to be known for taking messy books and turning them into a clear, accurate, and easy-to-understand financial story. I believe if the owner understands the story, they are better equipped to understand the numbers, and in turn, make confident, and informed business decisions.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my approach. Not all businesses are the same, so I don’t treat them the same. My pricing and my services are customized to each companies goals, industry, and current stage of growth. My background in forensic accounting, business finance, and project management gives me a unique eye for structure, process, and risk mitigation and management — I can see the patterns and opportunities others often miss. Knowing how intimidating finances/numbers can feel, my goal is to make bookkeeping something that brings peace of mind, not stress.
What I’m Most Proud of Brand-Wise
I am most proud of how my brand reflects who I am. From the clean logo and transparent design of who I am, what my background consists of, to the friendly, down-to-earth tone, every detail of Rosas Bookkeeping Group was built with intention. My goal was to take my professional background and present it to clients in a non-intimidating friendly manner that is approachable, rooted in service, and provides peace of mind.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One of my favorite past times is people watching. When I’m not working, you can usually find me trying out a new to me local coffee shop in San Antonio — journaling, jotting down new ideas, brain dumping, people-watching, or brainstorming my next big idea like when to start the laundry, what day to water the yard or which new crime TV show I’m going to watch. In addition, I also really value time alone.
A lot of times, I find myself driving in complete silence with no music, just thinking or reflecting. I meditate several times a day — sometimes even in the drive-thru line waiting for coffee.
Something people find surprising is that since I was old enough to work, I’ve probably had 100 jobs (or at least it’s felt that way). I have “dabbled in a little bit of everything.” I have a few degrees and just as many certifications. I don’t believe there is much I can’t do. I have done things from photography, to aviation airframe and powerplant, to correctional facilities officer to travel agent and the list goes on. One of the better unknown facts about me is that I am an ordained minister. I have performed several weddings. [Editor’s note: optional humorous line — “I like to joke that I can perform everything but circumcisions.”]
While I don’t have all the answers, I believe every experience has given me my story, therefore, I continue to learn, grow, and lead with purpose.
