Exploring Life & Business with Karie Huber of Rising Skye Profits, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karie Huber.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved numbers and the way they tell a story. After earning my BBA in Finance from UTSA, I spent over 15 years working for an investment firm that managed mutual funds for everyday shareholders. I started in customer service, opening new accounts, processing investments, and supporting both shareholders and financial advisors. From there, I moved to the Payment Team, where I handled broker and third-party payments to the firms servicing shareholder accounts. Eventually, I joined the Global Finance department, where I calculated management and transfer agent fees billed to the funds.

It was rewarding work, but as my family grew (husband and 2 young kids) and corporate life became increasingly demanding, I started craving more flexibility and the opportunity to use my financial expertise to make a direct impact on people’s lives. I wanted the freedom to be more present for my family and to use my skills in a way that truly mattered.

In 2022, while serving as Treasurer on my son’s elementary school PTO board, I rediscovered how much I enjoyed working with numbers and creating financial order. It felt like confirmation that this was something I was meant to do. Something God was calling me to pursue. So, I took a leap of faith and launched my own bookkeeping business. What began as KL Bookkeeping Services quickly grew into something much bigger than I ever imagined. It wasn’t just about balancing books, but about helping business owners feel confident and in control of their money so they could live out their dreams.

In 2023, I left my corporate job to pursue my business full-time. I knew I needed to devote more time to growing my business than just after hours. At this time I only had 4 clients on a recurring basis but knew I couldn’t take on anymore working a full time job.

In 2024, I rebranded as Rising Skye Profits, a name that reflects my mission, helping business owners rise above financial confusion and see the potential in their business. Today, I serve businesses across the city, offering bookkeeping, financial strategy, and cash flow planning designed to create clarity, confidence, and profitability.

It’s been an incredible journey of growth, both personally and professionally. I’ve built a business that aligns with my family life, my values, and my belief that financial empowerment changes everything. What started as a career shift has become a calling — helping others turn financial uncertainty into confidence and possibility.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! Entrepreneurship comes with its ups and downs, but every challenge has taught me something valuable and helped me grow.

In the early months, and even sometimes now, I struggled with self-doubt and imposter syndrome. I worried about leaving the stability of corporate life: the steady paycheck, benefits, and 401(k). I wondered if I could really make this work. During that time, I said yes to anyone and everyone. I went above and beyond to meet every client’s needs, often for a very small price. I had no boundaries and stretched myself way too thin.

Overcoming imposter syndrome was especially difficult for me as an introvert. Networking events, workshops, and interviews pushed me far outside my comfort zone. But I knew that if I wanted to make an impact, I had to push through that uncomfortable feeling for the sake of growth. Deep down, I knew I wasn’t an imposter. I was experienced, prepared, and passionate about the work I do.

Then there were the challenges of learning new systems, marketing techniques, pricing, and boundaries. I knew the financial side inside and out, but building a business meant wearing every hat. I had to teach myself how to market authentically, how to set prices that reflected my value, and how to create boundaries that protected both my energy and my family time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Rising Skye Profits is a boutique profit strategy firm that helps business owners gain clarity, confidence and control over their finances through expert bookkeeping services and financial strategies. I work with business owners who are ready to go beyond just tracking numbers. They want to understand what those numbers mean and how to use them to make smarter, more profitable decisions.

My services include monthly bookkeeping, financial health checks, cash flow analysis and planning, and strategic consulting sessions designed to turn financial data into clear, actionable insights. I also offer cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping for those who need to get their books back in order before moving forward with confidence.

What sets Rising Skye Profits apart is the personalized approach. No two businesses are the same, so I don’t believe in cookie-cutter bookkeeping. I take the time to understand each client’s goals, challenges, and vision. My clients know they’re not just getting reports — they’re getting a financial partner who genuinely cares about their success.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the transformation from KL Bookkeeping Services to Rising Skye Profits. The new name represents growth, freedom, and possibility which is exactly what I want for my clients. It’s not just about profits on paper or having your books in order for taxes; it’s about helping business owners rise into financial confidence and create businesses that truly support the life they want.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Outside of business, I’m a wife and mom first. My husband and I have been married for 14 years, and we have two amazing kids, ages 7 and 10, who keep us very busy. We’re an active family. Between dance, football, and everything in between. There’s rarely a dull moment!

We love to travel, and the beach is definitely our happy place. There’s something about the sound of the waves that reminds me to slow down and appreciate how far we’ve come.

When I’m not working or at a kid’s activity, you can usually find me playing card games with the family, trying new local restaurants, or relaxing with a good book. I’m a numbers girl through and through, but I also love quiet moments, good food, and laughter with my family.

I love to connect with my fellow business friends through Marco-Polo. Sharing our biggest and wildest dreams and keeping each other accountable in life and business.
