Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Angelich.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A native Texan, I was inspired by my mother, LaVonne Christian Barber, who was an artist, author and “ahead of her time”.
I always loved design, but never pursued artistic expressions outside of my home or personal style until I experienced idle time during the 2020 Covid Quarantine. I discovered an untapped gift and found a passion I never knew existed.
My compilation of works depicts the uniqueness of a simple item. I primarily work on authentic cow and deer skulls, cow skull ornaments and other various pieces. You will be amazed when you see the numerous pieces I have created, from a turtle shell to a simple box; a golf head or championship trophy to a 3 foot brass horse. Using a multi-faceted approach to my pieces of art includes techniques using metal, gems, glass, precious stones, jewelry and variants, transforming them into a design offering a unique, yet fresh sophisticated style that appeals to each person’s individuality.
I especially love commission work and quite often, people bring me their own skulls from their ranches or farms.
My artwork can be seen at The Starving Artist Gallery in La Villita, just off the Riverwalk in Downtown San Antonio, as well as at Texas Texas Treasures Jewelry and Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery in Boerne Texas. My website where you can view my gallery is www.ArtbyJamie.org
Besides working on commissioned pieces, I also enjoys golf, bridge, mahjong, Bible study, travel and working in my garden.
My husband and I have been married for 35 years and reside in Cordillera Ranch in Boerne Texas and have one son who resides in Denver CO and is presently pursuing his dream of attending medical school
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, it has been quite enjoyable, never any pressure because it is strictly a hobby for me. If there was any struggle, it would be for people to see everything in real life, not just pictures.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Before I moved back to Texas 8 years ago, I was extremely active in the charity world of Denver Colorado. My days were filled with serving on Boards of Directors for non-profits and chairing numerous events. I always focused on organizations that touched my life personally. Children’s Hospital because my son was as patient as a child, Volunteers of America because he and I worked Meals on Wheels for years, Bessie’s Hope because I love to work with the elderly, Children’s Diabetes Fnd. because it touched the life of friends and family, and Excelsior Youth Center because its mission touched my life. I could go on. Moving back to Texas after a 35 year detour through Colorado, I decided to retire from that world, and I did things I enjoyed. When Covid hit, I found that idle time and my creative side blossomed.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me in this order is:
God
My husband
My son
My health
My extended family
My girlfriends
My happiness…. which with all the above, comes easily.
