Janice & Ray, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I took over a small but thriving coffee bar inside Detar Hospital Navarro. Owned and operated that for several years before branching out to open a second location in town. Visiting locally owned coffee shop around Texas and beyond has been a passion of mine and my husband’s our entire 27 years of marriage. We developed a passion for good coffee and atmosphere. Gardenhouse Coffee was birthed with the inspiration of bringing people together with a cup of coffee. Whether it’s an iced latte, frappe, tea, or house brew; we are all about community and embracing a safe & inviting atmosphere that people can call their third space.
We are known for amazing espresso drinks & ample seating consisting of over 50 places including couches & community tables. We offer free WiFi and even more private areas for studying or working. Our space is designed with areas for meetings, book clubs, and even small events.
We recently began serving grab n go food items such as chicken salad, eggs bites, parfaits, and more!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are definitely faced struggles head on. We were forced to move locations due to a huge rent hike. We are located inside of an office building which does make it inconvenient for customers that would rather want a quick in and out pickup option.
However, we are grateful for the support of our regulars and so many others that come in.

We are known for our large space with ample seating and excellent coffee.
Our theme is Garden, so our space is decked out with live & some exotic plants all around!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Victoria tends to gravitate toward the chain companies when they are looking for a place to eat or shop. We are a somewhat small city, so that makes it difficult to start a grassroots business.
