Life & Work with Charlie Tran of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Tran.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Product of immigrant Vietnamese parents, and ended up being born in the Lone Star State. For a small portion of my life, I lived with my grandmother and 6 other kids in Houston, Texas. We were immensely drawn to street and hip hop culture there in Houston. So having “swag” amongst us kids was very important.

As the years went by and I started to attend school, I found myself to be the only Asian kid around. As you could imagine, I definitely wanted to “fit in” or be one amongst my peers. If I didn’t “look” like my peers, I would have to start dressing like them. There started my initial interest in my wardrobe.

From my adolescence to adult life, I’ve resided in San Antonio, Texas. My environment expanded my view of men’s fashion from new friends, new ideas , and new silhouettes.

How I got my start as a “content creator” is similar to a lot of people’s story – the pandemic. I was bored and started posting for fun. Fun later turned into thrill and the domino effect took place. Through social media I was exposed to new styles and started to experiment.

Today I am proud of my style journey and have been able to collaborate and participate in many projects and men’s fashion labels.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course when experimenting and getting out of your comfort zone, it can be difficult. Especially as a man, we’re drilled at an early age that fashion is for women. Which is insane because fashion is a form of self expression and we owe it to ourselves to do that.

Also with experimenting with new styles, at least for me, I often questioned my identity and if I should even try this new style.

It is a process and you have to trust it. I did.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
From a creative standpoint, I share my ideas regarding men’s fashion and content about my life on TikTok. On my page you can find style guides and informational content for folks who are wanting to understand personal style and want to develop their own.

My personal style resonates with my environment. I owe a lot of my style progression to my buddy Chris. He’s taught and shown me a lot regarding to the Americana side of fashion. Along with being a Texan and the music I listen to, Americana fashion really resonated with me.

Aside from fashion, I also love sharing bits and pieces about my life. What trips I’m planning on taking, what projects I’m embarking, and as of late, content about being a new dad.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you are someone who wants to develop a personal style, I would advise to get out of your comfort zone and see what’s out there. Make an effort to throw a fit anytime you get, even when going to the grocery store. Practice makes perfect.

For those who want to start content creating or start a personal brand, be consistent. Being consistent is half the work but it’s very important. Being a familiar face will get you places. Secondly, continue building on your content or product. Look for feedback and experiment with what works and what doesn’t.
