Meet Adrian W of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian W.

Hi Adrian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Adrian and I became a cosplayer in 2018. I found out about cosplaying after attending an esports meet and greet for my favorite team and I met their official cosplayer! I was so inspired by her that I began my own journey with cosplaying. Years later in 2022 I ended up stumbling across an anime called Love Live, it’s a show about school idols! As a result I met some absolutely wonderful people, including an Idol named Bunny. She showed me that anyone can be idol, even me, and she showed me a whole world of cosplay idols I had never seen before! I loved idols so much, I truly wanted to follow in Bunny’s footsteps so since then i’ve dedicated myself to performing all across texas, even in other states too! I worked as hard as I could and put every bit of passion I have into every performance and eventually after a long time I found a home in the idol community. It’s truly so dear to me, I wouldn’t give up being an idol for anything in the world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been easy, but honestly it wouldn’t be the same for me if it was! I struggled a lot to find my place in the community, as welcoming and as accepting as everyone is I just wasn’t sure where I fit into yet and that was rough at times. It takes a while to find your place but it’s completely worth it once you do. Dealing with rejection from auditions is never an easy thing, either. No matter how much rejection or how demotivated I felt sometimes I never stopped pushing though, and I never will!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a cosplayer and variety idol! Being a cosplayer is a lot of hard work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding in terms of being satisfied with the hard work. Making cosplays, props, wigs, it gets tiring you know! Being an idol isn’t all fun and games either…though there are lots of fun and games!

I’d say i’m most known for my energy overall! I put every single bit of me into every show I put on, whether that be in terms of working on my outfit, dancing with all my energy, singing my heart out, or just being silly and hanging out with the community.

I’m most proud of my dedication to my craft, absolutely nothing will stop me from pursuing the things I love most in the world and that’s something I really love about myself.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I LOVE how inclusive San Antonio is! I feel like I meet different types of people every time i’m there, not to mention the city itself it’s full of rich history and beautiful architecture. There’s so much yummy food too! That’s really my favorite part….
